Question what cam is right for me?

i have a 97 z28 and it blew a head gasket so i plan to have the engine overhauled. i am sticking with the stock crank with forged rods and pistons. i am purchasing a set of mac headers and off road y-pipe. i plan on sticking with the stock gears (a4), adding a cai, and adding a 2800 stall. i want to chose a h/c package that will be great for a daily driver (traffic and long trips), produce greater horsepower than stock, and work with the above mentioned mods. i have done a search and found great info on the le1 package that lloyd offers. would this be what i am looking for? not looking for extreme horsepower numbers just a nice fun daily driver with close to stock gas mileage that will see the track 5-6 times a year if that. oh, and an occasional light to light race.

I have been reverting these questions to a great new free software download at www.compcams.com. It is called camquest 6 and you fill it out with what you have, then enetr yoiur cars designated usage and it will mathc a cam from their product line. It will tell you roughly what hp/torque you could/ should expect.
I am not telling you to go buy a cam from them. I am not stating that LE has a better solution for you or not. I want to inform you and educate you so that you can make the best informed eductaed decision and put your hard earned money where it deserves to be.

thanks gatorhead, but i tried using this program and it seems a little complicated for me. i don't know about some of the information that is needed but i am doing my research. using the info in the cam sticky at the top, i figured the off the shelf cams that would work best for me would be the cc503 or the 268XFI. how much do these cams differ from what lloyd offers in his le1 package? would either of these cams lug the engine cruising at 65-75 mph with 3.23's and a 2800-3000 stall?

The Comp software is nothing but crappy advertizing and will make at least as bad a choice for you as calling their notoriously crappy tech line.

very true...I called and talked to some trailor park hick who called me a tree hugger because I wanted the cam to be able to pass emissions for my '95 and he gave me the worst suggestions possible. That software is also a POS.

I believe he meant to say xfi465 which is a 210/218 .560/.555 113lsa.
I dont like the xfi grinds personally because I have heard of them being very rough on valvetrains and chewing up springs with the very aggressive lobes.

What is the performance in some sort of actual MEASUREMENT?

One all important thing to consider when asking questions on forums is a LOT of guys recommend something as good only be cause they don't know any better. I have seen a lot of positive reviews get taken back when guys tried something better for basically the same price.

The LT4 stuff is a step up from stock, BUT at the same time you can get better parts yet, for the same price, meaning the LT4 stuff is still a poor choice.
