Default I'm so sick of these exhaust problems.. I've called jegs, summit, midas.. help!

Ok guys I need help here.

I called summit/jegs and midas. I'm trying to connect my 2.5" exhaust to my 3" collector. sounds simple right? well i thought so too.. just go to autozone get a reducer NOPE. none there, none at murrays or advance either. I call MIDAS and they say they can make me some reducers but they won't have a flare like this one : http://www.jegs.com/photos/389R3025.jpg

all they can do is make me a typical reducer with no flare, like this one: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/eccSto...917-2530_R.jpg would one like this be okay ?

AND THEN! they (midas) told me i can't use a slip fit reducer (reducer slides over collector) because the collector material is to thin and might crush under the pressure of the U bolts i planned on using. Is this true? ... can I just use a regular non-flared reducer and use U bolts to clamp it over the collector ?

I can't use band clamps b/c my subframe is in the way
so what do i do? thanks guys!

really the easiest thing to do would be to take it to a muffler shop.

tell them to make the slip fit reducer and put it on. it wont crush the collector. just dont torque the U-bolt down super tight.

so what do you mean man just a typical reducer autozone style.. or a flared one,???? ( I don't really wanna spend 40$ on flared ones if possible).

I really just wanted to use a regular reducer (second pic^^^) and a u bolt and leave it at that you know.

let me know what you guys think!

yeah just like the one from autozone. i dont see what the problem would be. thats how a pacesetter y-pipe connects to the headers. it just slides on. most people use band clamps but you can use u-bolts also.

ya but the problem is restriction, if you look at the typical AZ reducer it like "steps" down to 2.5" instead of being funneled down you know?

do you think that would cause flow issues or not really ?

do you know what im sayin man ?

its gotta go down to that size anyway it wont cause that much restriction if any. you arent building a race car so if you loose some flow you wont notice it. there are plenty of guys making big power on 3 inch duals goin into single 3 inch.

I believe that flowmaster has a set of reducers that slip on from 3" to 2.5". They have a nice smooth transition but are longer than standard reducers part #389-R3025. They are like $30 for the pair. I used them on my truck and worked nicely.

yes that would most definitely be a bottleneck. so did you not get the y-pipe with your headers? if so why not?

sounds like a good time for a universal 3" x-pipe kit from summit

take it to a exhaust shop, most have machines that will flare the ends of the 2.5in piping out to a lil over 3inch then band clamp those suckers on the headers

darn, idk why i didn't think of that, couldn't I just take the 2, 2.5" pipes from the kit and have them flared to 3" i.d. and then just clamp them on there? or is that a bad idea?
