Default Taking apart stock rear end... need some help

I had a loud knocking noise coming from my rear when i took turns in a parking lot... then i started hearing it all the time when i took corners. So then i knew something was up. I went to GM and got the posi additive, and I went to the ZONE and got some diff fluid. I then went home and took the diff cover off, and there was plenty of metal on the magnet, and i also found this in the metal pile...

sweet. so I check the gears... ring and pinion are obviously fine, the axle gears are a little beat... then I look up at the spider gears, and BLAM. teeth missing. lol. sweeet. Time to take apart the rear.

So I got the axles out, and I took off the carrier saddles or whatever you want to call them... and I cant seem to get the carrier out. Do i just spin the driveshaft and the carrier will pop out? or do i have to take the pinion out, or is there something im missing? Thanks for the help!

also, I counted the splines on my axle, and i counted 28... so is this the right gear setup, or did I count wrong? lol.

It sometimes takes a little force to pull the carrier out, try using a pry bar and work it out. Becareful though when it comes out it will come out fast.

IIRC if the rear axle is hanging with jackstands under the car and not the axle it will. Its been so long since I set gears up with the axle still under the car.

open diff is wrong, but are you buying gears or a carrier? Open = not posi, but gears don't matter for that. At least not last time I checked. 2 and 3 series are different, but since you have an M6, you have a 3 series.

Well I assume yours looks like this?

I assume that even open-diff is the same spider gears.

This is what my new posi looks like (99-02 rears), so I have no spider gears so to speak (I'm sure they call something in there "spider gear" heh, pretty sure those vert ones are worm gears)

If you call Summit, they are a pretty decent help to get what you need.
