Default ALDL cable failure..HELP!

Im trying to figure out whether my cable is junk, or I dont have it hooked up in the port correctly, or my comp. port isn't setup correctly...Anybody have any tips? Im just trying to read the car, then upload a file...hopefully to datalog after that..Car is in sig.

Using an USB port cable, OBD1. I also downloaded a USB driver off of the Moates site, and the laptop recognizes that the USB cable is there, but it still says "No message sent-cable failure", whenever I try to read the PCM. Anybody?

Make sure you have the right COM port selected.

What program are you using to read the PCM, and to datalog it?

Check your cigarette lighter fuse , as that is on the same circuit.

does the cable use the FTDI chipset? if not you're going to run into troubles. Make sure cable is assigned Comm port 1-5.

ALDL Test is a nice cable tester.

I've tried comm port 1, 3 and it didn't effect anything. I using a Flash program to read the car..

Buffman-I dont know for sure if it uses that chipset or not. I got this cable from an ALDL cable site a few years ago..so.

What is this "ALDL"test that you speak of? Where can I check that out at?

And I'll double check the cigarette lighter fuse as well..The lighter/socket has been removed for years, if that matters.

If you're stuck, call ALDL cable. That's what I did when I had problems with setting up my cable/software. They're good guys, and they'll walk you through step by step to get everything working. www.aldlcable.com

UPDATE: I tested the cable using that test from TTpowersystems, and it passed every test that I ran. I adjusted everything so it running off the same COM port, etc. Now the message Im getting is "No message from PCM", wtf? Did I do something in the wrong order? Do I have to start the car, to get streaming data in Freescan? I was just trying to read the pcm, and I got that message. Anybody?

Which tuning and/or data logging software are you using?

Which software program are you using? I'd suggest Datamaster. It's a free download, and you get 20 tries with it before you have to register and pay.

I had the same problem when using WinALDL. But when I switched to Datamaster, no issues.

It was a flash program I got from a non-sponsor tuner. I was just trying to read it first, then I got the "no response from PCM."...Going to try the datamaster this afternoon, and will post back, the new "message" i get, lol. thanks guys.

yeah and free scan has worked great for me and as it states...is free..also make sure your key is in the run position for a a few seconds before you try to read ..mine sometimes throws a fit if you try to read quickly after ignition is turned on.

For LT1's datamaster can't be beat. Plus, you get 20 free recordings. Not a bad deal!
