Iam that guy

I bought it on a GP. It certainly "looked" to be a better "mouse trap" but for me it had issues after a few thousand miles (high RPM stumble). I sent it back to MSD under warrenty and sold it for $25 less than I paid for it.

Like any other part mine could have been one of a "few" bad units. MSD replaced it, not repair it.

I have had "GM/AC Delco" Opti's fail.. MANY times so they break to.

Hey:

To me the Dynaspark, is a better made unit, than any other opti.
The MSD looks to be a better unit than GM oem as well, the caps are way better than GM oem, but for some reason they fell short when they released the whole opti and got a bad reliability rep.

most of the bad rep came when people didnt install the o-ring correctly and that created a clearance issue with the cap and rotor, this caused problems and as stated above, its a electro/mechanical and we havent figured out a way to make perfect machines so of course there will be problems on some and failures, but its like the saying goes, do something good and the recipient of that good act will probably tell 1 or 2 people, do something bad and the recipient will tell 10 to 12 people.

Yeah I had one of the early units, and I had ZERO issues. People act like its a fluke if one works right! Blows my mind.

My car has 120k miles on it, i wont say i abuse it all the time, but im not scared to punch it. I have no idea what is wrong with the original opti, because i have not had 1 problem with my car starting or running. its 12 years old as well.

OEM AC DELCO OPTISPARK is what I would look into. I've had my 1994 Z28 since new, and have changed my opstispark only ONE time!
