Default Spec 3+ = Crap!

Well after only about 10k miles and NO track passes my Spec stage 3+ which is supposed to be good for 700ftlbs is slipping like a bitch. I did break it in correctly for 500 miles, and I'm pretty good on clutches (normal driving) I don't slip it much at all. Anyways, I'm pretty pissed that I spent 600$ for a clutch that hasn't lasted a year. So new clutch with the new tranny, just need to decide on what to go with now. On top of that, I just put my M/T ET Streets on and that damn sure isn't helping the problem. Although it bogged like a sob from a 3k dump, but didn't hold 2nd at all. Any clutch suggestions for about 600ftlbs to the wheels? Oh and right now I'm only putting right under 400 ftlbs to the wheels.

Better clutch fail vs hard parts after it. I had the 2+ which did hold well but died on the starting line with a little over 2k miles on it.

I did find SPEC customer service to be very good on prior issues I had which in the end were not clutch related. the SPEC guy on this forum has responded politely to issues.

I make 400+ Ft lbs to the wheel on a 4400 lb B body running a MT Street and now run the ZOOM HP.

So far no problems but I only have a few thousand mi on it. I will say street maners are better and track use is good.

I see the guys making bigger power on stick cars running a "twin" disc clutch but have no direct experience.

That clutch must be crap since it didn't work for you. Did you replace the hydraulics when you did the clutch?

I was going to get the Spec stage-3 myself, but decided to go with an knock-off brand stage-3 instead, i'm out 188.00 bucks for the kit, if it holds up, i'm happy, sorry to hear about the spec going out so soon, i do like the looks of the Zoom products though.

Hydraulics are fairly new, isn't a hydraulic problem. I've never had a clutch last only 10k miles, thats bs. Damn autozone clutch's last longer than this pos. Hell probably hold better too. Should have went with the twin disk from the get go. I think that's next but I don't have a ****** G to spend.

best mod I have done for the car A+ for "fun" factor.

Car weighs 4400+ LBs, makes about 400 RWHP/TQ so any clutch is going to take a hit.

My 2+ did hold very well...just did not last long. Also had chatter in stop/go traffic unless you are "perfect" on engagement RPM's.

My ZOOM has not seen as many passes yet as the 2+ did but so far is good with street maners being superior over the SPEC

I have driven a B-body with a street twin and it sure has more pedal pressure. That set up requires the McLeod hydraulics to deal with the extra pressure needed for the twin. Only complaints I have heard for people running a twin in a B-body is breaking tranny/rear end parts.

Something has to give and my $02 would be clutch vs hard parts after it.

Yea.. that is alot of weight to move on a hit of the line. I'm in at with hopefully around 500 at the wheels, but alot less weight.

Do you have a vid of it on Youtube? There is a vid of an Impala SS with a T56 in it cruisin around..

my spec 3 held up great... had it for like 2.5 years and it still had life. Only thing that killed it was i turboed the car the light cluch w/ the aluminum light flywheel couldnt handle the top end power. Still looked pretty good when i pulled it though!

My 3+ has been holding up to 600+ HP just fine and I was daily driving it too. Im guessing you either slip it too much or something was up with the install.

As soon as you get it out of the car send me some pictures and I will be happy to assess the situation and we can go from there. Clutch life is dependent on a number of factors. Seeing the part will better allow me to determine what if any issues there were and as has been said by more than one person on this thread...I will do what I can to help you understand the cause and work with you to find a resolution. Thanks!

I love my 25,000 mile spec III x-pad. 650hp 3900lbs and 1.4 60fts and it hasn't given up yet.
I thought it slipped the last time out but after looking at vids I think it was wheel spin.

We've installed tons of SPEC clutches and had few problems, and we're proud to be running a SPEC 5 in our shop car.

Keep in contact with SPEC-01 here on LS1tech, Jeremy is very helpful.
