Default T56 swap to T5... any one done it?? please respond

i have been through too many clutches in the T56... i have heard, becuase of the design of the pressure plate it is really hard to get enough clamping force behind the clutch. I was wondering if a T5 swap would get me all the clamping force i could EVER want, and what all mods would I have to do to install it.. (drive shaft, torque arm, etc.)
thanks for your help

You are going to regret swapping a T56 out for a T5 .

well what other options do i have (besides a a4 swap).. i am just NOT having any luck finding a clutch/or pressure plate that will hold.. i bought one from Competition Clutch and it held really well for a little while.. it was a puck clutch with a HD pressure plate..
what combos are out there that will hold then??
WHAT COMBOS WORK
thanks

Try looking at Monster clutches. From the mods in your sig your not making crazy power and Iam sure a Monster or even a Spec will hold without any issues. Just depends on how much you want to spend. There are clutches out there good for 1000rwhp. They just cost alot.

if you change to a t-5 you'll be replacing transmissions more than you will be replacing clutches. So....I guess you COULD solve the problem at hand.

Ive broke more gears, clusters, and syncros in t-5's than I can count, t-5's are junk.
I think you have an alignment issue or something of that nature.

well you could get a TKO 600 t5 to handle the power, but for the cost...a badass clutch would be better.

i'm pretty happy with my Spec 4 setup...although its noisy when cold

but damn does it grip

If you're burning up clutches, it may be in how you drive your car. Is your PP the one with LT1 or "LT4" fingers? (flame away; I expect it.)

The T56 is a lot stronger and of better design than the T5, and it's easier to rebuild and it gives you a few options when it comes to gear ratios that work for a V8.

The time you save in clutches (if your driving and the clutch and release system are ideal) will be spent rebuilding transmissions.

I can be very narrow minded and I wanted to run mechanical linkage and a T5 clutch with a 1995 T56. So that's what I did, with the 1995 bellhousing. I did it for the cheaper clutches. So I will tell you that you can do a T5 if you want. Or you can do a T56 with T5 clutch if you want (to fabricate.) But I'll also tell you that you're making a mistake going to a T5.

Maybe you need to learn to drive? I've got an LS7 clutch in my car and it holds like a mother.

78-81 A-body pedals.
Spherical rod-end linkage.
Lakewood fork (same as 83 and prior F-body)
I used the T56 bell.
The bearing retainer sleeve at the front of the T56 is sleeved for the larger ID of the T5 throwout bearing.
Every single piece of it is replaceable at a parts store except the bell, the front adapter plate, and the crossmember (it's in a G-body SS)
I don't have power levels that make clutches go out so my clutch is fine. But it is set up to take a regular 26 spline 10.5" regular clutch from a third-gen (and other apps.)
