Default Shifting into the wrong gear stories

Well I was in a highway race and I managed to go from 3rd to 2nd instead of 4th. I felt like a complete idiot and it scared the crap out of me. It didn't seem to do any damage because I noticed it right away. So am I alone on this level of stupidity? Or have any of you guys done this before? Yours stories will help me feel better about myself

Same thing happened to me. Didn't **** my **** up though. Think I hit somewhere in between 2nd and 4th so it didn't enter the gear. Scared the living **** out of me though. I have now switched to the back handed shift.

Yeah nothing seems to be wrong with mine thank god. At least I didn't have to learn my lesson by bending a push rod or a spun bearing

Yes, that was my biggest fear and mine has to last for the next 2 years until I get out of the military. Not gonna test the theory of having nine lives though.

Once a while ago I went from 3rd to 2nd on a planned 1st to 4th run. My foot reacted much quicker than my brain did and engaged the clutch so the tires only locked for a split second, but it was enough to make me go out and do a lot of practicing after that.

1 month after adding my heads I was running it hard and at 118 I went from 3rd to 2nd and cought it just as the rpm gauge hit 7500, I babied it home went out and got a leak down tester and everything ended up being ok, I am running UNDER the recommended requirements for "minimal" PTV clearance and thought for sure I may have nicked/bent a valve, thank god I didnt.

When I first got the car I was trying to get faster with the 2nd to 3rd shift and went back to 1st. Luckily I realized it before letting the clutch all the way out. I then started shopping for shifters. Now with my B&M and the proper hand positions, no more worries.

My friend did the 3rd to 2nd shift with my car once and it didn't hurt anything, and a few months later I was in his car with him when he did it racing a Mach1 and he bent 3 pushrods. A few months later he did it AGAIN in his car and broke a rocker arm. I have also replaced valve springs on two cars that did it at the track and broke springs resulting in a misfire code

My wife did the 3-2 shift at the track in my car. Bent all but one of the exhaust valves and cleaned the carbon out of every valve relief. When the rear end locked up she panicked and tried to take it out of gear without using the clutch, so it was over-revved for a long time.

I did it once with the hurst shifter getting onto the highway. Luckily I was only around 3500 RPMs so it went up to 5500 but it scared the crap out of me. Next day I ordered my MGW and it hasnt happened since.

I would have to say that almost everyone with an M6 car has blown a shift at one time or another.
It's happened to me a couple times and I just ended up with 3 bent pushrods. Drove it that way for awhile until 1 finally broke, then I replaced them all and it's been trouble free since.

Done that before and locked the rear end up and went for a ride spinning. Atleast it was on a side road. Did not mess anything up thank god. Just put a flat spot on the tires.

done the 2nd to 5th a few times. usually happens when 1st and 2nd were completely tractionless, and i try to hit 3rd quick to keep the tires baking...but end up baking the clutch in 5th instead(78k miles on stock clutch)

did the 3rd to 2nd at the track once. i was ****** pissed. had been running low 13's all day, all i wanted was a 12 second run. it happened on the one run that would have been a 12. chirped the tires for a milisecond, probably sounded like i chirped 4th from the stands. didnt over rev, i shift at 5500, so it didnt get past 6k. i corrected it quickly and ended up running a 13.2. the rest of my runs were 13.3 and higher hitting all the gears fine. i had to leave after that

Last summer, I had a problem going from 6th into 5th. It kept pushing into reverse. My buddy was asking me why I was flashing my backup lights at him. Never happened since.

Ive done that a **** load of time. How do you know if something is broken? I've been to a bunch of Fbody shops to have work done, and no one noticed any noises.
