02 t56 rebuild ?'s
thinking about going back into the tranny AGAIN . only this time thinking about attempting it myself if i can find any info or guides. any of you guys rebuilt your own??
last time i was stuck in 4th gear and the 3/4 synco had to be replaced . i also had steel fork installed .
this time im not stuck in any gear as of now , but when i try going into 3rd at high rpms it grinds like hell most of the time and sometimes it kicks it outta gear. i thought maybe my adjustable stop on my shifter werent adjusted right or had maybe backed off but no luck there its still doing it. thought it might have something to do w/ the clutch but that wouldnt cause it to kick outta gear . so im pretty sure its the syncro again. how much does the 3/4 syncro usually run price wise and are ther some built a lil tougher than others ??? this last 1 only lasted about 17,000 miles and the stock 1 made it 98,000 wtf
thanks in advance

Did you check the shifter cup, in the trans where the shifter ball attaches ?
Did the shop replace the blocker rings at the same time they did the 3/4 synchro/slider? Did they use billet synchro keys? Bronze fork pads?
Depending what they put back in 3/4 that was original, you many not have a 17,000 mile part failing, but a 115,000 mile part failing...
There are dozens of rebuild guides on the net that google turns up.
I believe you're only a few 100mi from Tick also, if you want to give them a shout..

yep i just googled it and found a few things. Tick is probably the best way to go(way to much to mess w/) . when i had it rebuilt supposedly they replaced the 3/4 syncro did the steel fork w/ bronze pads and new keys (the reason i was stuck in 4th i had busted the ring and dropped/broke keys). the shop right next to Carolina auto masters did the rebuild. and charged the hell outta me for a bunch of crap it seems like.

Google "T56 Magnum". Check with the site sponsors that sell Tremec parts to get pricing/availability. AFAIK, they still have alum forks, plastic pads, stamped steel keys, but they have been improved.

The Magnum will still be hard to find, and as noted still has inferior parts installed as well. It IS a better tranny stock for stock, but you have a tranny that can be made to handle just about any power you want to throw at it, so.......
Either have a reputable shop rebuild the tranny and upgrade some stock parts...bronze pads, billet keys, CF rings, etc...
Or, buy a rebuild kit with upgraded parts, and do it yourself.

actually how hard is it to rebuild???? im pretty good at working on stuff(motors ,etc.)just have never been into a tranny b4 . is it as complicated as it seens from the tech guide . i just glanced over it and seen some nightmare stories about breaking teeth off of gears trying to remove them.

Its not super difficult to rebuild a T56 and make it work . The biggest issue is having the correct tools when needed . Some of them literally fall apart while others require pullers and presses at damn near every turn . As with anything else , your real abilities are tested when you are trying to fix something you see nothing wrong with in the 1st place . Any monkey can replace parts that are clearly broken or worn out .
