Default What size slicks are you guys running on your drag set up?

I have a 98 trans am with full bolt ons , hp tune, fast 9090 , making about 433rwhp with 4-10s and a moser 12 bolt. I recently went to the track and I was launching between 4500 and 5000 rpms and the clutch held up just fine but i was spinning the tires from first to second and even into 3rd . I am running pro star set up with 15x10s out back with new mt drag radials in size 275 55 15 and it felt like they were not hooking up at all . The car was hitting the rev limiter real bad. Any tips on what i should do to get the car to hook up and get a good pass out of it? What size slicks do you guys run and should i go to a hoosier slick and get rid of the 26 inch drags? thanks

26 inch hoosiers will work great on your set up. several friends of mine have a very similar set up and they run 26" slicks with awesome results.

wat do u have as far as suspension upgrades?

Get some 26" qtp's. You will never hook that 6spd on radials. Get some of these and leave off the limiter and you'll pull the fronts. I run 28"s but I also had 4:30 gears. 6spd cars need a much softer sidewall to absorb the impact of dumping the clutch. You might can squeeze some ok 60's outta those MT's, but I dont care much for slipping a clutch to do it, I prefer the dump lol. I would cut high 1.5's 60fts on my old cam only setup with hoosier qtp's

running MT Drags, 325/50 16's (28" tall tire). 1.4 60's all day launching off the t-brake at 4K, (flashing at 5400 thanks to the spray on the launch)

you should be hooking. what PSI do you have the tires set for? are you driving through the water box or around? how long are you doing a burnout for? do you stop your burnout in the box or drag it out?

suspension; adjable tq arm? adjustable shocks? if so what is it all set at?

things we need to know

no offense but thats bs. the same tire he is currently running right now i was launching at 6K on my old t56 and hooked to a 1.37 60'. plenty of other people have done it. but there are a lot of things we need to know about what he is doing at the track. which is why i asked all of the questions above. im sorry but i dont believe the issue is the tire.

I was there only saw you spin 1st gear..not 2nd & 3rd!!

But IMO you should go with a 28" since your M6.

MT drag radials were designed to work with automatic trans cars, not manuals. They do not like to be shocked hard at all (IE, clutch dump). You absolutely can get them to work with a clutch, but it isn't easy....your suspension needs to be set up very well to make it happen and you need to know how to drive it off the line. Unless you're a big fan of suspension tuning, it's far easier to step up to a bias ply tire in a clutch car. They will be FAR more forgiving to suspension setup and less than ideal track prep. I run 28x12.50x15 ET Streets at 16psi and I launch between 6500-7000rpm. I would blow 325/50/15 radials away at anything above 4000rpm.

My car put down 754rwhp with a 6 speed. I run 28x10.5x15 MT ET Drags. I pulled a 1.45 60' the other night at the track and two 1.55s before that. Care weighs 3650#. I say get the same tire!

I make a little over 500 to the wheels with my stock bottom 6.0L and L92 heads. I launch 7200 with 28x10 15 hoosier slicks, 4.88 gears, been 1.4's on motor and ran some 10.90's at 3800lbs. its a Moser 12 bolt, and its been broken several times! so be ready!

**** wont happen on a radial and a M6.

So everyone agrees i should upgrade to some hoosier slicks 28x10x15 inch rim does anyone have to part number for these so i can order some. My suspension is non adjustable only the bmr torque arm is adjustable. I know the car wasnt hooking up really good with the radials. Just wanna be able to get a solid pass out of it.

I pulled 1.6 60's on 17" mt radials pulling the tires a little in first and second. With stock springs and shocks. I set the tire pressure at 17lbs. and did a long 2nd gear burout. But everycar is different. My new car has 27x11.50 15 qtp's and the best I can pull is a 1.50 60'.

I run a 26x11.50-15 with 450hp to the tire. I'd say with the power your making, 28's might be too much tire. I could see if you were running 4.30's or bigger but with 4.10's, I'd say either a 26" or the Hoosier QTP 27"

28x12.50 ET Streets here, will be switching to a 28x10.5S when I'm done with these tires. Currently a 4.11 gear, swapping to 4.71.
