the t56 is a hell of a lot stronger than the 46l0e. the t56 doesnt get weak until you reach the 450-500hp level and driving/or driving like a mad man

Skip Shift 1 to 4 is designed from the factory for gas mileage. Most if not all of us M6 guys get the elimitator to get rid of it or have it tuned out.

Your friends have no idea what they are talking about.

T56 is one of the strongest transmissions in production. There are different spec levels for the internal components though, with the Viper being the strongest.

However, the components can basically be interchanged. If you are planning on pushing over 500HP, just have it rebuilt to Viper spec internals, and you're good to go.

it was actually pretty ingenious, saved our cars from coming w/ a gas guzzlers tax and kept GM's fleet MPG down, just GM playing paper tricks on the EPA. its annoying as hell but a simple fix.

Some of the earlier T56 units have a weaker 2nd Gear..I killed mine and had to replace it.

The Skip-Shift actually skips 2nd and 3rd..there is a Solenoid on the side that controls it. When it actuates it shoots a pin into a little groove and forces you into 4th.

You can unplug it and it will work like normal, just have a dash light.

If you are **** like me you can find a plug for it..

Why pull the solenoid out?? Just unplug the harness, plug the CAGS eliminator in, and you're done. Removing the solenoid really has no advantages.

You can also tune it out. I sold my CAGS eliminator plug after tuning it out.

with about $425 in parts: carbon blockers, steel 3/4 shift fork, synchro rebuilt kit, bronze fork pads, billet keys the standard T56 is rated at around 700hp by most transmission builders.

Beyond that level you want to look at a Viper output shaft (30 spline) which is about a $600-800 upgrade.

These transmissions are very strong and there are plenty of people that have run 10's with them in stock form. Until it is broken there is no need to pull it apart.

Overall the transmission isn't weak unless you start getting close to 5 like said before. The only really weak parts are the shift forks and keys. Tic Performance builds them for about 2200 with your same tranny. You should give them a call.
