Default T56 Shifter Swap

Hi all,

I just signed up here, because there seems to be a bunch of you who may be able to assist me. I tried having a quick search, but because I'm from Australia, I don't know enough about the US cars being discussed to make sure I'm understanding it correctly.

I have a T56 from a VX Commodore, it has a shifter like so, of course, this is looking at the underside, it has the plastic housing over the shifter linkage up top:

It's going into my 93 Toyota Supra, and with the remote linkage it's just going to be too far rearwards, so I was looking at getting a shifter that would bolt in place for a direct shift. Superficially, the 93-02 Camaro shifters I see kicking around the net look like they may fit:

I understand this might require modifications to work, but I'm not sure and was wondering if you'd be able to assist with some information.

Cheers in advance!

Nathan

That's the same/similar to the GTO sold in the US. You should be able to change the offset lever in the transmission and use the Fbody shifter.

Yeah, figured it would be the same.

I'm sorry, but what is the offset lever? Do you have a pic? Is this the GM part# 12523298 I see referenced elsewhere? Also, Fbody = Camaro/Firebird?

Just looking at my other pictures, is it this bit that looks like it's held in with the grub/set screw?

yes.. It's a roll pin that holds it in.. The Fbody offset lever is slightly different.

Sweet, thanks for that mate!

Any ideas where online would be the best to get it from? Can't really rock into a GM dealership here

Yes, a F Body is a Camaro/Firebird.

Can't you get GM parts from a Holden dealership? Holden is a GM company. (That's why the parts your parts are identical to a GTO - the GTO is actually made in Australia at a Holden factory.)

is the T56 from a 93-97 GM F-body or Vette?

The new HURST shifter should bolt right in.

www.ddperformance.com is a good source for info and parts
