Well this thing has been out and in a bunch of times. The input shaft, pilot bearing, throwout bearing, and slave all look great. I have my t56 apart for a rebuild so we might try some stuff from mine to eliminate some problems. Any other ideas are appreciated.

That.
I'm considering just trying the stock clutch back in it and seeing what happens now, we don't really have anything else to lose at this point...

Will you send me some pics of the parts? If you have a noise there has to be a cause for it. Do you see any evidence of unusual contact on any of the parts?

Well, the brand new GM master assembly and GM slave are in (Advance Auto master and slave are out) and the noise still persists. Here's a link to videos of the car running tonight. With the clutch pedal released, a noticeable ticking noise can be heard very clearly. With the clutch pedal depressed it becomes louder and more of a whining noise (you'll hear it get louder when the clutch pedal is pressed). Check it out and give me some opinions. EDIT_ Go to around 4:00 in and my buddy starts filming from just under the car with a little more sound definition.

I know you all looked at the parts and didn't notice any evidence of contact but did you look at the ring-gear? Though I haven't heard this specific sound before I can't help but wonder if the starter bindex is touching the ring-gear. If anything were touching the plate, or any other part for that matter, there would be whitness marks. When you can, send me some pics!!

That's definitely something to think about Jeremy. I'll tap the starter with something and see if I can hear the bendix release if it's stuck. I don't have time to pull the tranny again until Sunday I believe but I'll surely get some pics to you.

We're gonna post pics in a little bit. Looks like all 6 pucks are glazed over, front and back. I don't know why though, I drove it VERY easy for the 325 miles on it. Will you take a look at the pics and tell me what I need to do from here Jeremy?

The pilot bearing looked fine, but we changed it anyway. The throwout bearing looked fine. No hot spots on the flywheel. The pressure plate looks like it has two seperate wear patterns starting on it, half and half the inner circle being darker then the outer half. The pucks are glazed over but not uniformly. alot around the edges but nothing in the center of the pucks.

EDIT: the pressure plate feels smooth although the pics look alittle rough.

sorry to hear about your luck man... i've had problems with every spec clutch i've put in stage 2,3,3plus..LT1 and LS1..the last one i finally took it all out and bolted the clutch and pressure plate to the flywheel on a table and used a dial indicator to check the fingers on the presure plate ..was way off talked to spec they said it was no way..sent it back to spec they kept it for like 3weeks then finally sent me a new one..it worked ok for about 8 months then went out..

Damn man, I hate to hear that. I hope my clutch isn't in limbo for 3 weeks. My car (which is my 100% sole DD) has been down for going on 3 weeks now. I've almost exhausted my transportation resources.

Have you started the car w/ the clutch/transmission out, to confirm that the tick sound is indeed clutch related?

Thanks for the suggestion, but it can't be anything else.It just started after the last install and under the car, you could hear the noise coming from the bellhousing.

Was all that I could think of 'cuz it sounds like a lifter tick. Obviously not, since it's only coming from the bell housing. Maybe there's some external projection on the outside of the pressure plate housing that catches on the inside of the bell housing or (as noted by SPEC01) something on the flywheel catching on the starter or even on the rear of the block???

You've changed the pilot bearing & the throwout bearing. So, if bearing related would be input shaft bearing on transmission. Realizing that it started only w/ clutch install, it's unlikely, but, maybe possible. Who knows, am fishin' now, really have no definate reply.

FIXED! My buddy scuffed up where the pucks looked glazed with some sandpaper and took out the new OEM-style flywheel and we decided to take a long shot and put the new spec on the old flywheel. We fired it up and went through the gears on the jackstands and it did perfect. We got done @ 10:00 and my wife and I took a 2 hour drive now totalling 440 miles on the clutch. It feels great and grabs half-way through the pedal travel. Thanks Kevin (nasty 96) for the advice on the phone, and thanks to Jamie, Art, Bill, Dubz, and Jeremy @ Spec. I'll post how it grabs at the track when I go.
