Default Spec 3 help

I have a new Spec 3 I installed with the shim, a new stock flywheel, new slave cylinder from Advance Auto, new master cylinder from Advance Auto made adjustable and I can hardly get it into reverse and sometimes grinds any gear I try to go in. It wants to grind every time, even most of the time after I try putting it into another gear first. It's driving me crazy. We've blead it several times with a mighty-vac and finally have all of the air out the master and it still does it. Any ideas? I put in a call to J. Auvil (Spec01) and maybe he'll have some good advice. Any ideas or things I could do to fix this problem? I have 310 miles on it so far.

I haven't gotten a message from you...I apologize if you left one and I didn't receive it. That being said have you checked any measurements yet? If you pump the pedal is it easier to select a gear? I assume that engagement is on the floor, is this the case? Let me know and I will be happy to assist you! Thanks,

Thanks man. I left a voicemail on your extension about an hour ago but I got in touch with Justin @ ext. 108. He was stumped too. Pumping the clutch really doesn't do anything different. I don't know what else to do except push it off of a cliff.

Now with the clutch pressed it makes a horrible grinding noise till the pedal is released... Go figure.

Update: I think this new slave cylinder is leaking. Looks like brake fluid bell housing but it's hard to tell because I've been driving in the rain a little bit. Transmission is coming out Thursday and I'll update anyone who cares enough to read this crap. lol

Mine didn't shift well or go into reverse for the first 100 or so miles and just gradually got better. Everything works perfect now though.

We got about 320 miles on it now. Besides the noise its seeming to look a little better, looks like the slave may be leaking.

My Spec Stage 3 still has problems going into reverse and it's got a couple thousand miles under its belt. When it's in gear and the clutch is engaged it will grind a little bit, but only around a certain RPM.

I hope a GM slave cylinder fixes the problems. It's going in Thursday.

Did you use the shim? Hope we get it figured out soon Josh.

Rob...keep me posted! I assume you are seeing a leak from the bell correct? If so then the slave has popped.

Having an issue selecting a single gear is not typically related to a clutch issue. If you have problems with a single gear then you may actually have a problem within the transmission. It's definitely worth checking it out.

Let me know if you all have any further questions. Thanks,

We're gonna put a GM master in it tomorrow and check that first and foremost. If that doesn't work, we're going to pull it and double check the pilot bearing, slave, etc. Whoever had my car before me tore off the quick release fitting on the braided line going from the master to the slave. Anyone know a way to get that to release without that collar?

Unfortunately the clutch was put in by the previous owner, so I do not know.

Idk, I think I might just buy a new Master and Slave and see if that helps. How much do syncros cost / Where do you get syncros?

The pilot bearing was wallowed out. Whether it was our install or just bad luck I don't know at least it was a somewhat easy fix. We'll find out for sure tomorrow when its all finish bolted up.

Make sure also to adjust the adjustable master cylinder when the work is done. Sounds like the slave, as already discussed.

When the clutch & hydraulics are installed correctly, you should be able to put it into first gear, then with the clutch pedal to the floor, accelerate to say 3000-3500 RPM without the car moving forward. If the car creeps forward, the clutch hasn't released & the set up needs more adjustment.

Got it all back together replaced pilot bearing and no problem getting the trans back on to the bellhousing. Now i guess it'll have to come apart again has a low pitched noise coming from the trans/bellhousing area at all times. Not sure what it is...
