Default Best fluid to use

I'm just curious if anyone has any preference for the trans fluid they use? I want to change my fluid this weekend before I get her back on the road and I'm just curious if any kind is better than another. I have heard that Honda ATF is supposed to be pretty nice, but I just want to see what info you guys have to offer. Thanks!

Either use a good synthetic ATF or use regular gm Dexron 3 like it say on the side of the trans

Tick Performance recommends just any dex 3.. I have synchromesh in mine now. Very nice in the warm weather, but a little notchy in the cold at startup.. Gonna flush and put dex 3 in and see how that performs.

I put in Castrol Dexron/Mercon. Says it's for Dexron III applications. Got it cheap at Autozone. Put it in at about 50,000 miles on the car. The trans did shift noticeably smoother.

Pretty much, man. The thing with a manual transmission running ATF is that really ANY ATF is total overkill. A manual never heats up enough to break down ATF, which is why manual F-bodys have no trans fluid change intervals listed in the maintenance part of the owner's manual. The only thing I'd say is avoid synthetics. I am not totally sure about the later T56s on the LS1 cars, but I know at least the earlier ones have like a paper seal or something that synthetics eat at. Sorry I'm not being more specific but the exact details escape me right now.

I called Tremec and they recommended Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF....I'm using their instructions It's the only synthetic they recommend in their transmissions. Also, the 97+ T-56's I believe switched to carbon fiber from paper seals.

I guess I think that an extra few $$$$ to help the transmission maybe last a little longer or shift a little smoother isn't too bad, and I've heard changing fluid at 30k intervals is recommended. I suppose it won't really hurt anything if you dont tho
