you can fill it through the shifter, you dont need to watch the plug for drips, just put in 4 quarts.

theres magnets in the trans but you cannot clean them unless the tailshaft is removed.

nope, i wouldnt.

some people will recommend gm synchromesh. ive never tried it, but if your trans is good, i dont see a reason to use it if its shifting fine.

Using a higher quality synthetic oil will result in lower tranny temps.

^^ and cause too much slip for the blocker rings to function properly, even break down the blocker ring material. use what gm recommends, dexIII.

Or you can use what Tremec recommends, Mobil 1 ATF.

The problem with the rings was only for '93-'96 or '97, then they switched to carbon fiber over paper rings, getting rid of the problem.

Either use dexIII or the Mobil 1, I wouldn't use any other.

it my understanding the carbon/kevlar rings were introduced in 2002. up til then they were the paper versions which dont like the synth fluids too much.

I found this information to support and called Tremec to ask. The T56 expert I spoke with said to use Mobil 1 ATF in my 1999 Formula (note the year, I didn't just say T56), saying it's the best you can use.

A lot of people have good luck with regular Dex III tho, so it's really up to you. However, Mobil 1 is a good alternative.

The only issue i have with that info is...

"Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF is an excellent choice for the T-56, PROVIDED that the T-56 is a 1997 model or newer...DO NOT run the synthetic ATF in the pre-1997 T-56 units. It will destroy the paper on the blocker rings. And do not run it in a manual trans with brass blocker rings either, because it will ruin those also...Tremec changed the blocker rings to the carbon fiber type for the 1997 model year and synthetic ATF will not degrade these."

My 99 had paper linings. The new blockers I bought are the updated carbon versions which look completely different. And the non-sponsor company I bought then from said the older blockers are not available and have been replaced with the new versions.

Plus the reverse blocker is brass...
