Default shifter noises

Is there anyone out there that has a pro 5.0 shifter that after installing the tranny makes a whinny noise in mostly 4th, 5th, and 6th?

Did you install the Stops?
If so....
Take them out. Leave them off, the tranny has built in stops.
You Do Not need stops. They can actually Kill your tranny.

How is it that the stops can kill your tranny???!!! I have the stops in my B&M and have no problem. Mine are set almost exactly as the tranni stops though. Is it if you have them set too far in and the car isn't fully going in gear. Just wondering. I don't want to thrash my tranny.

Exactly
These trannys Don't need stops.
I was sceptical too at first till I started rebuilding them.
Now I see what they are talking about.
The stops serve no purpose . But if the got loose and started moving , you might not notice till you blew the teeth off of a synchro or worse , a gear.

Whenever my shifter is in gear, the stops aren't even touching the handle, so they can't be hurting anything. Right?

I have mine installed so I don't bend the stops in the tranni on hard shift. Sort of a precaution. If installed correctly I don't see there being a problem. I'm going to check mine out to make sure. As long as they are set past the point of where the gear is resting I figure it should be fine. Thanks for the info!

Back to the first post. I saw where someone cut a gasket from rubber for the shifter and he said he barely noticed any increased interior noise. Don't know, never tried it.

Yeah the noise you hear is because you lost the rubber issolater when you took out the stock shifter. This bugged me at first, but then I got used to it. Yes some people use rubber gaskets or washers or a variety of other stuff.

Is this ture for the LSS (with stock Hurst) as well, i just put mine in and i hear weird noises in first second and third at low rpm kinda like a "lubricated sewing machine" sorry bad analogy only thing i could think of. Do you just get the noise since there is no issolator on the LSS?
Thanks
Wade

Yes, any stick that doesn't have the rubber thing will do that.

I must disagree here. My transmission had to be rebuilt because my internal stops failed. I've never heard of any others that have had this problem, so it very well could be isolated.

The built in stops of an aftermarket shifter will not harm your transmission if installed properely. Like said though, if adjusted incorrectly, very well could lead to a rebuild.
