Default T56 Help Needed

Ive been trying to find a ls1 t56 with no luck. I found a really good deal on a 93 t56. I know they have different gear ratios and are rated at less power. My question is can this year t56 still be converted over to fit a ls1? with a new input shaft, bell housing and cover plate? I want to go pick this up in the next few days but i want to make sure i can convert it first.

Not like that. The '93's used different countershafts, input shafts, mainshaft gears, and front plates. Keep looking..

Where are you located? I am in Birmingham, Alabama and have a spare T-56 (150K miles out of my daily driver 2000Z.) I opened the front to check for broken keys/wear/etc. and it looks great for the mileage so I just sealed it back up and stuck it on the shelf. I really don't need or want to sell it but I could use some space cleared out. If you are close enough we could maybe work something out. I do not want to ship.

thanks,
Jerry

For what its worth, I got a screamin deal on a T56 from an LT car. 400 bucks cuz of a cracked bellhousing. I converted it over to LS duty, input shaft, midplate, etc, and upgraded to Viper parts (stainless synchros, brass fork pads). All said and done, I had 1300 bucks in a built T56. If you can get a deal on an LT T56, I say do it.

It was not a hard transmission to rebuild at all, as long as you have the proper manual and the correct tools to do the job. If yer afraid of messin it up, no worries, there are plenty of rebuild specialists on tech that can take care of the job for you. Not many go this route, but in my experience, it was the best, most economical way to get a built trans ready for some serious power. My two cents.
