I'd still say isulate the line evenif it is clear of the exhaust.
Heat is a killer on hydraulic clutches.

Never the less ive always replaced both units at the same time. So, if its true, you may want to rebuild your master now that you have a new slave. In my camaro I just installed my new tick master with a new slave and new lines...but the car is still on blocks till i get the tranny back in. Ill let you know if I have any problems. I hope not to as now ever last part of the clutch hydraulic system will be new, including a new ls7 clutch assy.
Good luck and please post back if you make any progress!
Since the master was just installed last week, I don't think there was enough time between installs for one to wear out the other.

I've had a couple other folks suggest the same thing. What would you recommend I use as insullation?

Iagree,
plus the issue your now describing sounds like a problem with the tranny, not the hydraulics. Im just learning the working of the transmission now so cant be much help on that.

I use heat wrap insulation from any home improvement store.
Then slice some 3/4 heater hose length wise & wrap that around the heat wrap.
Tie strap the whole thing closed & done.

I don't think it's tranny related because when the car is off, the tranny shifts smoothly. It shifts well when driving normally, it's only after the burnout and launch that I'm having problems with 4th. For instance, I did my burnout, pulled up to the line, then pre-staged. With the clutch pushed all the way to the floor, I tried going through all the gears. They had all become notchy and I was having a little difficulty getting them to go into gear smoothly. I knew then that I would not be able to make a successful pass...
