Aston Martin Vanquish T56 help
I am in the process of partially stripping down an vanquish T56.
So far i have pulled reverse, reverse synchro, 6th gear.
Now does anyone have any ideas on how to pull 5th gear?
Also are there any tell tale signs if its a 1 piece counter or 2 piece?
I was told its a 1 piece but ive read on here that it could be 2 piece, i know i could pull it to try but i dont want to damage it in anyway.
Here are some photos
thankyou

You can take off the snap-rings that hold the fork, and lift (yank) the entire extension shaft out of the synchro or the counter if you hold 6th. Afterwards, you can use the same puller (Did you use one?) on the 6th driven gear and secure it with a hose clamp...

Ah ****. You got it man. I should have read the post closer haha.
OP, just pull the rest of the 5/6 extention cluster and gears out and pull the main case off over the mainshaft and the driven 5th gear. Then press the 5th gear off.

cheers mike, i did use a huuuge puller for 6th gear.
I was expecting the countershaft to look a bit different if it was 1 piece but it looked identical to my old knackered one.
Hmmmm this project maybe even easier than i though then.
one thing i dont get is why the viper guys in the uk swap the gears for vanquish ones, surely they would be making a weaker box by getting rid of the 1 piece countershaft and going 2 piece. I suppose the only reason would be the better gearing.
anyway thanks again, i will continue tomorrow as i have to do some uni work

I wasn't sure on the Aston Martin but I know thats what we do on the 03-04 Cobra units and its looks the same.

some more photos
Vanquish countershaft extension on the left and knackered monaro countershaft extension on the right, they both measure up the same so its looks like they are interchangeable

one more thing, the tail housing seems to be 40mm longer. I assume this means that the mainshaft is 40mm longer aswell.
My plan was to use the vanquish gears on a gto mainshaft but the problem is that the vanquish 5th gear looks to be splined and my old monaro one isnt and the area on my old main shaft isnt either.
I still need to pull 5th gear to confirm if its fully splined but it looks to be

I think you'll find that the vanquish gears/synchros are double/single cone, like the viper, and won't work on a GTO/monaro triple/double cone mainshaft. Not sure if anything different was done on the UK versions, but that sounds like it won't work.

damn it, im just wondering now how the viper guys uses the 5/6 vanquish gears.
Problem is that the company in the UK that does it, isnt helpful and keeps everything to themselves

A viper could use the 5/6 gears directly by also using the Aston-Martin mainshaft. If being retro-fit into a shorter F-body like tailhousing, they'd just need to shorten the mainshaft and bore the tailhousing.
Basically the Vanquish mainshaft is exactly the same as the viper except the 5/6 gears are fully splined like the Ford T56s. I believe someone posted a pic recently of the A-M mainshaft that a sponsor sold to him for a F-body viper conversion.

Would it be possible you use a cobra mainshaft then with these gears to use in a gto or is the cobra mainshaft the wrong size?
I suppose the other options are cut down the vanquish mainshaft, or mod the car to suit the vanquish t56
