shift knob removal?

Default shift **** removal?

hey guys, i've got a 2000 camaro ss 6 speed and i just ordered the ws6store short stick so i was trying to take the old **** off the old stick but it's ridiculously hard...like i can't do it, i even got a buddy to help me and hold the other end and twist but this thing won't budge. it just unscrews right? or are there any other tricks you guys have used?

Is there a locking nut under the shift **** and if so, did you loosen it? You are using tools, I'm assuming and not just your hands?

i don't see any locking nut under it, it looks like it's just the **** on the stick
if there is a locking nut how can i take that off? i have some tools but it's just like a small kit in my car, but i have the basic ones. i've just been using my hands because i don't see anything to use tools on

mine had locktite/glue on it. i used a pair of vice grips to hold the shifter then some big pliers to twist the **** off. it was on there pretty good.

well is there any way to get the boot off the old shifter without taking off the ****? i ordered a new **** too so i really just wanna get the boot off to put back in my car

I have the factory Hurst shifter, and I just changed my stick and **** the other day. First remove both pieces from the car. Around the shift boot, push the fragile plastic frame towards the shift stick and slowly move the plastic retaining clips up and over, until you can get the boot completely off. I got the impression that these are extremely easy to break, so careful. Hold the shift boot up up, and then start to remove the stick with a box wrench (there are two bolts holding it on there).

Once you have the entire piece off, you can experiment more with the table mounted vise grips (if you have them), but I would be damn sure that the teeth on the tools don't tear up the leather on the factory shift ****. Mine actually came right off with both hands. Maybe you can try spraying a tiny bit of PB blaster into the start of the threading.

yeah i have the whole ****, boot, ring, stick assembly out of my car, but i can't get this damn **** off haha i just want to get the boot and ring seperate

finally got it...that was a struggle haha good thing i got a new **** cause the leather on the hurst one is all wrinkled now :-( oh well
