LS1 T-56 issues. Who to go to?
My 98 Formula M6 in my sigs tranny is in need of some maintenance. Having not taken it apart, who knows exactly what all it needs. I am guessing it needs a new set of syncros for 3rd and 5th, and not sure what else.
If at WOT it grinds in going into 3rd, and 5th (sometimes 2nd also). Also, it won't let you shift from 6th into 5th. You have to engage 4th and then go into 5th (royal PITA).
The clutch I had put in a few years ago is holding up nicely, but with 115k on the clock, its time for a rebuild.
Who do you all reccomend? What am I looking price wise? (I understand its a guesstimate)
I am guessing somewhere around $1,000 all said and done, but don't know who the best shop is to take it to.

It ranges from $700 (best case) to $1500 (worst case) for a complete upgraded build. It just depends on what all hard parts have been damaged, and need to be repaired/replaced.
For $700, you get a basic rebuild and upgrades. This includes all new synchro rings, keys, springs, shift fork pads, seals. The upgrades include the steel 3-4 shift fork and billet keys. If any gear or synchro assembly that has been damaged will also have to be replaced at the cost of the parts on top of the basic rebuild package. It's not too uncommon to have to replace a few items, so $1000 would definitely be an accurate estimate. Once it's all apart, we'll know for sure. The tranny build is backed by a one year unlimited mileage warranty. Shipping would be about $85 each way from your area.
For more background info and feedback, do a search here on this forum for my name and you can find a lot on Google too..

Well, i was going to recommend RPM, but thats already been mentioned. Ive been running their Level V T56 since the beginning of 06 and it has been flawless!! Its been in two different cars, and its still going stong. I dont make a ton of power, but were not exactly nice to it either.

Lots of people have had tick rebuild their stuff, only problem i have with mine is when its cold outside like 20 or colder until transmission gets to operating temp it doesnt like to shift into second i have to double clutch, other than that i beat on mine everyday and it takes it, depending on whats wrong youll probably be looking more toward 2k for everything though if you get a strengthened rebuild
