Default Finished Spec Stage 3 install! A little pissed.

I'm not tryin to bash SPEC, but the quality of their pressure plate was horrible. We had to redrill the holes because they didn't line up with the flywheel at all.

With that out of the way... The install went pretty easily. My throwout bearing was completely trashed (explains all of the grinding I was getting) Pilot bearing was fine.

I also installed a short shifter... That along with the clutch makes the car seem totally different.

The hardest part of the entire install was bleeding the damn thing. I replace the slave and master with 01+ GM parts and also did the "drill mod".

IF you're planning to do your own clutch install be sure to have the following:
1) Swivel sockets
2) alot of extensions

3) alot of patience..

Did anyone else have the problem that I did with the pressure plate not lining up?

I didnt, things lined up just fine. Reused my stock flywheel, just had it resurfaced. Replaced the pilot bearing just because it was cheap insurance. Upgraded to the 01-02 slave, and installed the McLeod adjustable clutch master. Install and uninstall was a breeze, not sure why you had problems. Glad to know you got yourself a kit though. The only thing that I would of done different is spent a little more and bought an adjustable clutch master.

At first I thought it wasn't going to line up, but once I rotated it around a couple of times, it lined up perfectly. I guess they are not symetricaly drilled holes, cause it will fit one way, but not if turn it 90* it doesn't line up.

The way we did it was....

With the master in the car.. bled it with the mityvac.. once we were certain that all of the air was out of it.

we connected it back to the slave. since the slave was new it had been benchbled at the factory, but once connected..

just bleed it the normal way.. should take about another 10-15 mins.

I've installed 4 Spec clutch's, never had that problem w/ the PP. Did you already have bolts in the flywheel when you had this problem? Could have had the PP twisted a little, they do flex.....

I just put my Spec in over the weekend, piece of cake. But then again i've done over 25 clutch install's on my back in the driveway so it ain't **** for me

i noticed while installing a spec 3 and comparing it to the valeo replacement pressure plate from an lt1 car that spec had ground off the valeo name, and of course used diff springs/rivets. Clutch has worked out nicely and taken lots of abuse

Ya the holes on my pp were not perfect as well. I started each bolt a few times and still had it a hair off. I decided to let the bolt clearence the hole for me and i had no more problems. Sick clutch for the price though!

did you call them to ask about it b4 you drilled there product???
they might have
a. told you what your doing wronge
b.agreed with you and sent you a new one...

to say there quality is bad without giving them a chance to make it right seems pretty harsh

I wasn't bashing them.. and it's true.. the quality of the pressure plate I received wasn't up to par with the reviews that I read from other SPEC customers.

So I had to drill out one of the holes... For the price that I got the clutch for, I didn't really mind. Just a little surprised that I had to do that. Overall it's the best clutch for the money. Grabs like Michael Jackson in a toy store.

I'd recommend them to everyone.
