T56 transmission popping out of 3rd gear; high pitch noise in 6th
I have a 2000 TA WS6 with a strange problem (mind you it does have 100,000 miles now) it will pop out of 3rd gear when I'm coasting (never when accelerating thank God) but usually around 2500-3000 rpm's I can usually predict when it will happen. It usually pops out with such force it will throw my hand back when it happens. I've had the car since it had 88,000 miles and this has been happening at least since then.
Also this is a new thing-- when I'm in 6th gear at around 70mph, I get this high pitched whine sound which I never noticed before. The pitch goes up as I accelerate. I haven't noticed any other problems except for this noise-- otherwise the transmission has been doing great. Any ideas? Thanks.

bummer
my car had the exact same thing, some people said it was a bent shift fork, i bought a rebuild kit and new shift forkand took it to a shop, when they had the tranny opened up they said that my gears were rounded off and that i needed a new input shaft, they would do all this for the low low price of 1200 dollars not including the 400 i spent on the rebuild kit and fork. i said screw you, picked up my tranny in pieces and bought a used t56 for 750. i still have that rebuild kit and shift fork still in plastic if you want to buy it but im not sure if that is your problem.

Thanks
I'll probably just drive it until it starts getting worse. It only pops out of 3rd like once or twice a week at most... and found out it is actually around 1900 rpm's (while coasting) that it happens. It does have 100,800 miles on it (high for a 2000 model) but I bought it a year ago with 89k on it. The noise in 6th I'll just keep monitoring-- if it gets any louder I'll have it rebuilt.
Anybody know a good tranny shop around the Kansas City area?

Its definately the Syncro and shift fork. My car did the same but luckily I'm still under factory warranty. The dealership replaced it with a steel fork instead of the aluminum one. I feel for ya though.

Popping out of gear? What possibly causes this?
A bent shift fork causes this. If you still have a warranty take it to the dealer. There was a recall for this defective part (check the TSB). The original shift fork was aluminum and the replacement is steel.
No warranty you can get prices from local shops and get the steel replacement for about $49 from D&D from the link above.

What about if it pops out of 3rd, makes a squealing in 6th, and gets stuck in 4th everytime you put it in there, and you have to fight with it while driving down the road to get it out.

greekss I can't concentrate on reading because of that picture at the bottom of you post.
Luckily My trans has been good to me but I think I'll need a clutch soon about 85,000 miles on stock one now.

My brothers LT1 6 speed is doing that.. I guess we should go ahead and pack it up and ship it off.. I'm going to drive it to Chattanooga today using just 1-2-5-6 gear switches..Anybody suspect any problems?
