Default Spec 3 = Bad MF'er

Just installed a Spec in the car. Kick *** clutch, almost like stock driveability. I've got 25 miles on it and ZERO chatter. It's definately an on/off setup, but easy to drive as stock....

If anybody remembers about 3 yrs ago on LS1.com I used to bash the HELL outta Spec. I had one of their first clutch designs explode in my car after 1500 miles, killing my t-56 in the process. The old disk was a POS using rivets to hold the center section together, which sheered off causing .......We'll see how this one treats me. So far, so good....

i also remember. i had a stage 3 in mine. carbon disc. one of the pad litterally fell off and was grinded up. all it did was chatter. i hated them for it. good to see it only took them a few years to get it right.

well i like the way my clutch grabbs so far.. too bad i put 1000 miles on it (lots of stop and go conditions) and it still vibrates like hell sometimes... I sure hope this vibration goes away soon..!

the clutch i have is the new hybird spec 3 by the way. No "I" piece on mine though.

What all did you purchase with the clutch. I am in the market for a clutch and I am considering the Spec 3 clutch. Did you use their flywheel or did you use your stock flywheel. Did you have to update your hydrallics?

Mike, you do NOT need their flywheel. That's a bunch of marketing crap, the stock steel flywheel works just fine. As for hydro's, your stock master will work but I would upgrade to the 2002 Slave cylinder. I am running a 98 master and 02 slave, shifts like butter

Josh, did you resurface your flywheel or did you just purchase a new one. Thanks for the info on the master saves me some money.

The holding compasity...

The stage 3I has the drivability of the stage 3 but with the holding power of the stage 5 (800+ RWTQ) I believe the I stands for Iron disk.

FWIW, you can pick up a stock OEM flywheel for fifty bucks from SLP. Save the resurfacing. Costs are probably close anyway.
