It accelerates by itself to about 3-4K RPM and stays there for 4-5 seconds.

Are you saying the motor revs or the car itself speeds up??

Are you shifting from neutral to 1st at about 20 mph?

Yes sorry. I meant the motor revs. I couldn't have said it better

So what might be the problem?

Im assuming you are running the M6 bc you said n to 1...

Im not sure what could be causing the motor to rev up just by going in gear There is nothing electrically connecting 1st to the ecu.

Do you have any mods?

My car did this between shifts in all gears....it's tune related. Frost was able to tune it out for me.

Yes, my transmission is manual. I park at an incline so I put it into first and apply the hand brake.

To back out, I remove the handbrake and put the car to neutral and let it coast back down.

During heavy traffic I constantly go from neutral to 1st (stop and go). That's when it usually occurs.

I'm pretty sure it is in the tune as well. If I'm not mistaken, it's the "throttle follower" or "cracker" table in the tune. Basically when you push in the clutch when the car is doing over 10mph, it will hold the rpm at "x" amount until the car gets below a certain mph. I hated it, so I tuned mine out years ago.

Sounds familiar, couldn't remember what it was called.....just annoying as hell and embarrasing as well. Nothing like coming to a stop light with your car all revving up and people wondering what the hell your problem is...LOL

It's like how about 20% of the time I shift down into 4th it grinds a bit before going in. It's embarassing =/

Dude I hate this so much. I put my car in reverse and the transmission does a loud "clunk" noise followed by a grind. The way I avoid this is to hold the clutch down, ready myself to shift into reverse. If I feel the clutch is gonna grind, I let go of the clutch slowly, move the stick to reverse, thank slowly press it down while moving the stick to reverse.

Either that or I shift to first, then to reverse. That's the most used way I do.

As far as your problem goes just hold the stick forward with some pressure in reverse and let out slowly. You'll feel it pop in better.
