If you've got all the tools (especially long extensions for the socket wrench), a lift, and the drive to do it it isn't that hard. I just did mine in an f-body and swapping in the clutch was the easiest part. It is getting the transmission in and out that will be a pain.

Make sure you have a tranny jack and a buddy. My left arm is scratched to high hell because I didn't have a pal help and those transmissions aren't that light.

Be sure you swap out the slave and pilot bearing while you are in there.

As for a guide, there is one in the stickies for clutch swaps.

With those provisions you can definitely do it yourself. I've had my trans out and in, replacing a clutch kit twice in the past 2 months...

Im looking at a all-data breakdown for the clutch. It looks like the clutch in on the back of the motor along with the slave cylinder so should i have to drop the trans?

Yes to the GM slave. They tend to be the most recommended and what most clutch companies suggest.

Yes the transmission will have to be dropped enough to be out of the way. You'll have to unbolt the 8 bolts to the bellhousing, pull the transmission straight back (with a little wiggling) so that the input shaft clears, then just lower it and move it to the side until ready to install again.

If you go back to the manual transmission section of the forum towards the top are 3 threads highlighted in yellow. The bottom one that says Manual Transmission Stickies is the one you want. In there is a click-able link for a clutch swap.

Yes, you have to have the transmission out of the car to replace the clutch.
