Default Pro 5.0 + Lou's Short Stick Users Come on in!

Does anyone have this exact set-up? I'm getting tired of my B&M. It's been giving me trouble on the 2-3 shift and keeps hitting the "block" between 1st and 3rd and not going into 3rd. It's also not very smooth, it clunks ans clanks between shifts, and it difficult to move, not as smooth as it should be. I would also like shorter throws after driving a 996TT and an S2000 and loving their short throws. I realize this might be my syncro's going out, would like a new shifter anyways. Thanks

I have the Pro5.0/LSS and its not the smoothest, it still clunks and it will take more effort due to how shortness of the shifter. My stock Hurst was 10 time smoother, but with the Pro 5.0 I think its about impossible to miss 3rd when really getting into it

true, the pro 5.0/ss combo is not very smooth, its actually pretty notchy (which i love). the shifts are definitely very short though (i cant compare it to the ripper since ive never tried one).

I have this combo, and agree with Donate52 - it's notchy (but that's what I like) and gives a very postive feel when shifting.

I've had the factory Hurst w/ LSS and it's a night and day difference for the better.

Of course, everybody has their own preference and it always boils down to what characterisitcs you're looking for.

For me, it was the Pro-5.0 & LSS combo...

I have the Lou's Short Stick with the stock Hurst, and the throws are tiny, and it works smooth.

My 87 T/A had a B&M Ripper Shifter and my 98 Formula currently has a Pro 5.0. I've driven them both and honestly prefer the B&M. The Pro 5.0 feels weak and just slides into gear, while the B&M took force to go into gear and felt SOLID! The B&M feels stronger and tougher in my opinion. I rarely missed shifts in either car though, so I guess it's just up to personal taste.

Can someone define "notchy". Do you mean smooth to a point, then needs some force to overcome it, then smooth again... I don't like my B&M because it takes some force to get it into gear, and it feels like I'm breaking something.

I have the Pro 5.0 with the short stick from Speed inc. I don't think it's notchy, but it definately was more solid feeling than stock.

Ive got the pro 5.0 short stick combo, its very notchy and i hate it. I dont think its the shifter though, i think my syncros are shot. very tough to get into 2,3,4 sometimes. its like it binds up when going into the gear, very notchy feel. although 25% of the time it goes in smooth, feels good. like i said i dont think its the Pro 5.0. It also never misses 3rd. Strong centering spring. Good buy!

I've got the Pro 5.0 & LSS & I really like it and mine has about 2 years & 21k miles of use on it. I don't really find it notchy, but I did re-use the rubber boot off of my stock Hurst on it to help make it quiet, which I think had a little bit of a dampening effect so mine might not feel as notchy as others due to that.

Did you downshift from 3rd to 2nd before you attempted to go to 3rd? If you did then that is what caused it. The tranny likes to keep going in which ever direction you are shifting and it takes more effort to change from downshifting to normal shifting to get the right gear as well as normal shifting to downshifting. Otherwise I'm not sure what you did. I've never had any problems with my 5.0 LSS combo.

I did the same thing, muscled the old rubber boot off the Hurst, and re-used it.

I don't have the LSS, but the Pro 5.0 itself is a far better then the factory Hurst I had. I've got an MBA billet **** which shortens the throws up ever so slightly, feels great to me.

Thumbs up

I just had my Pro 5.0 and LSS installed yesterday. I also reused the boot and don't find there is any more noise than the stock shifter.

WOW, The throws are really short now! After only a few minutes of driving I realized that I really like this setup. Shifts from 2-3 seem much more positive now. Now I just need a new shift ****. I hate the stock Z28 "Ball" even more now.

This is an excellent combo, and I'd recommend it to anyone! As far as the missed shift, the type of shifter you have has no bearing on whether or not you mis-shift. Shifting hard is a learned skill, and one that will cost you money along the way.

I like the stick the 5.0 comes with cut down, there is plenty of threads on there to lob some off.
I cut it 3 time to get the "right" height for me.
