Default 1st gear needle bearing install issue.

Im in the process of rebuilding the t56 in my project, and I have the mainshaft almost the rest of the way together. I cant seem to get the 1st gear needle bearing on with the gear. I can maneuver the bearing onto the shafat, and slip it inside the gear, but when I try to put the gear on the shaft with the bearing, it won't go. Its too tight, and seems to screw on rather than just slip on. Anyone run into this before? Thanks in advance.

All the needles need to align befor it will slip on. This is where a glob of assembly lube keeps it all out in alignment. Putting it on with the gear helps too.

I ended up needing a new bearing, and still needed to heat up the gear. Its on the shaft now, but it is TIGHT. It takes me holding the shaft and another person to spin the gear. Any suggestions? I know it wasnt that tight when I took it off.

Something's wrong. Post some pics or take it to a professional.. You should NEVER need heat for any gears..

Here are some pictures an a video. The only thing that is new is the bearing, and it did this same thing with the old bearing. If it helps, the original taper bearing that goes behind/on top of first gear had to be pressed off. The gear got tight after I pressed it back on, and it has been nothing but problems since.

The first gear and mainshft have been heated in service and both will need to be replaced.

Not to challenge you, but what makes you say the mainshaft heated up so bad? I'd like to know for future reference. Also, the mainshaft barely has a year of use behind it, is there anything inparticular that I should watch out for to keep it from heating up so bad in the future?

The mainshft under the large bearing and the face of the gear both show metal-to-metal contact which should never happen. With your symptoms, I'd say something got too tight or unlubed and here we are.
