Default scatter sheild or trans blanket - what is out now

i remember some were installing the new bell housing for the T56 tranny
how did this turn out?
did it fit
and how much did it cost

also what tranny blankets are available if the bellhousing isnt working or to costly.

my engine is out and i though this would be a good time to get it in.

I run a trans blanket from http://www.exoticmuscle.com (under F-body / Safety). It's like $180 or so. You can see it at http://www.akmcables.com/engrear.jpg

I'd rather have a full bellhousing with a block plate, but until they're SFI certified and they "fit right", I'm probably not going to plunk down the $400+ to get one.

That's the only 6-speed specific blanket I've ever heard of / seen. Not saying others don't exist, but that's the only one I've ever heard anyone talk about.

I don't know if you could make a ~$100 automatic blanket work or not. Header to blanket clearance is pretty tight on the passenger's side for me. This one fits both LS1 and LT1 T56's - it has a cutout for the LT1 clutch fork. It really does fit snugly, and well.

Smokin': Any update on the fitment of the thunder blanket?

Anybody: What's the install procedure for a blanket (manual trans) if the motor/trans are in the car? Does the trans have to be dropped, or can the blanket be weaseled into place and fastened down?

You don't have to pull the trans, but you will need to droop it (remove crossmember) to get access to the bellhousing to engine bolts.

The Exotic Muscle blanket has a half dozen 'hoops' that get held in place by the bellhousing to engine bolts. The straps for the blanket go through these hoops. Yes, it's a tight fit, and some "tweaking" of the hoops are required. You can barely make them out in my photo above (previous post).

Mine was originally installed without removing the trans or engine. Just removing the crossmember.

Good luck!

Thank you. I'll tweak whatever I needs tweaking, to keep my feet from getting tweaked off my ankles!
