Default GTO t56 tail housing and shifter options

I got some trouble figuring out my shifter and tail housing options. Let me start with I bought a GTO t56 of a member here knowing I had to replace the tail housing do to it being cracked. It came with the GTO shifter and I noticed it pretty far back in my chevelle. I think its going to have to move forward. Can I just buy a camaro tail housing and swap all gto sensors, internals...etc over and use the camaro shifter or should I just buy the GTO tail housing and theres a way to mount the B&M camaro shifter on that?

BTW I don't have it yet but I plan on using a GTO interior (dash, seats, center console..etc) if anyone has done that in a A-Body how did you deal with this problem? I have one inch set back motor mounts so if I move the shifter forward to camaro location I hoping it will line up with center console.

A Camaro extension will work but you will also need the Camaro offset lever( where the shifter fits)

the gto and camaro tail housings are the same part. so swapping will do you no good. what you need to do is go by the camaro shifter offset piece and swap it with the one in your gto t56 this will move the shifter forward to where it sits in a camaro you will also need the shifter from an fboduy. nothing else is needed.

Here is the part you need on our site. As redbird555 said, this is all you will need to swap on a GTO transmission in order to use an f-body shifter.

And here is the tailhousing that fits a GTO or F-body since yours is cracked:

That's because the GTO shifter requires a different offset lever. For example, if someone with a GTO has a broken offset lever and tries to use this particular part, it won't work, since they'd need to GTO-specific part.

Since you're wanting to convert to an F-Body shifter, this is the one you'd need.

That's because it's the 1 part that will make the transmission not work in a GTO anymore.

I'm swapping a GTO t56/LQ4 into my 72 C10. I want to move the shifter forward in the cab. Will this get the job done without major modifications required like the mid shift mod?

I'm trying to do the exact opposite an put a T56 out of an f-body into my Gto. Does a yone know if they sell the same shifter offset to do so? Also is that the only thing needed? I looked on gearbox.org, but didn't see it.

You need to find a GTO offset lever and install it in the trans and use the GTO shifter assembly for the GTO.

Hope that helps. Tick Performance might have the GTO lever or RPM transmissions.
