Default want to put a 5spd behind my 4.8 swap

My car info
91 Toyota Supra
4.8 from 01 silverado, e85, nitrous(not hooked up yet)
hooker ctsv manifold, ls1 intake, 42lbs injectors, walbro 400 pump

Im stuck between a rock and a hard place right now
Currently i have a 4l60e behind the 4.8.
I cant decide between twin turbo and auto, 5spd cam and nitrous or 6spd and nitrous

Now if i where to throw a 5spd behind the 4.8
Lets say a t5 or any other recommendations
I know the t5 isnt very strong but its a very light trans(which my heavy *** supra needs close to 3800lbs)
Its not a race car. Its a cruiser and sometimes *** whooper(hopefully)

What would i need to do this swap?
I know i need a 621 bell housing
LS1 flywheel
LS7 pilot bearing
Another custom driveshaft
Whats the different between a Borgwarner ford t5 and WC chevy t5?
If i remember reading correctly the WC t5 has a slant in it and can be fixed with the Borg warner T5 tail housing?

Yes i know the t56 would be a better option. But at this time im only interested to know what would i need to put a t5 behind my 4.8

Thanks for any input

Depending on your cash flow, you can get a G-Force or AstroGear T-5 that will be up to the task. The Ford WC trans has different shifter location, bolt pattern and input/output shafts and (possibly) different ratios. BTW, the above aftermarket builders cater primarily to the Ford crowd so aside from an aftermarket bell, it might be easier to go that way...

Thanks for the info
As of right now I planned a budget of $2000 to do a manual trans swap, cam, push rods and springs

If I remember reading correctly the Chevy t5 has a 26 spline input and the ford uses a 10 spline?

Id shy away from the T5. Yes, they're weak, but you're mixing a heavy car AND a power adder. Nothing good will happen. Upgrading the weak part (the case) will put the cost just below a T56 setup and even that isnt a guaranteed bulletproof T5

If you want cheap and strong, go 4L80E

G-force makes a T5 case with the Muncie / V8 F-body bolt pattern. The Ford one is way more advertised.

Pre-WC and World Class have significant differences. Blocker ring differences, roller bearing gears instead of bushed. WC started in the mid 80s and NWC ended early 90s. All were made under Borg Warner and Tremec bought out their light-duty line in the 90s.

All F-body T5s have a tilted transmission mount pad on the tailhousing. It actually works very well ergonomically for shifter position in a lot of cars and there's no reason to stay away from it if: - the shifter position works in your car console / ergonomically and - you can use a Lakewood bellhousing (to clear the 168 flywheel) with the tilt. Mock up the tilted F-body T5 from a third-gen and see where the shifter is. If it's terrible and not fixable by a custom shifter stick, pull the trans. and look into a different tailhousing & shifter rail length with a T5 specialist.

3800lbs is a good point to strongly consider the T56 anyway. The V8 F-body T5 ratios are a good choice, but the heavier a car gets, the more important trans. strength is. There's no way I'd go aftermarket gearset in a T5 since the cost puts you up near the T56 in cost.

Good luck w/ your project.

Thanks for all the input guys.
Really appreciate it.
Still undecided on which way to go with my build to finish it.
May just buy some wheels and enjoy it in stock forum. Til next year
