Using a TR6060 in a F-Body with a slip yoke adaptor
Hello Everybody
I am new to this site, I would like to talk about an idea I came up with for a TR6060 transmission to be used in a F-Body and it doesn't involve disassembling the transmission and will allow the use of a slip yoke driveshaft, factory speedometer will work and a transmission mounted torque arm can be used, I'm almost done working on this idea, what I did is I got a 4L60E mainshaft cut it and made a thread in the centre so that it can be tightened instead of the nut on the TR6060 fixed flange and I machined away the material around the flange so that only the centre hub is left after tightening the mainshaft I welded it to the flange hub next I machined an aluminium adaptor and welded it to the TR6060 tailshaft so that it will hold a 4L60E tailshaft in place I also added a bearing inside to.eliminate play at the 4L60E mainshaft, the transmission will be longer then a F-Body transmission but it will fit and work only the driveshaft has to be shortened have a look at some photos if this works I will make and sell kits for a relatively good price and the kits can be installed with ease in less then 2 hours.

appreciate the ingenuity. but i dont really see this catching on. you lose the torque arm, the shifter isnt in the right spot for an fbody, as well as I'd be willing to bet that joint is a severe weak spot. and it probably adds a substantial amount of weight to the trans

Thank you redbird for your thoughts on this matter, the remote shifter was probably the easiest job to do in this conversion I installed the remote shifter about a year agoon my 2000 WS6 Trans Am it's a little bit further back then the original f body position but it's more comfortable because the original f body's shifter position is very far forward, I can give detailed instructions on how to install the remote shifter, with the torque arm just shorten it and make sure the pinion angle is correct and if you have a shorter torque arm your instant center will back giving you better traction with factory comfort, what you said about the joint being a weak point yes you might be correct that is why I am getting slicks and taking it to the strip to put it to the test, appreciate your input.

Just got this bearing installed, fabricated a bolt on adapter that holds the bearing in place to minimize mainshaft play and the little play that is left is finally cancelled out by the output shaft bushing

Greenvortec 97 and AMP D, I should get it on the road by today or tomorrow and see where it is at and what it feels like, I will temporarily shorten a LT1 steel driveshaft to get it on the road while I send my Aluminium 3.5 inch driveshaft to Dyno tech to be shortened and balanced, I won't use a transmission mounted torque arm yet, I will stick to my body mounted BMR torque arm see how everything holds up make corrections if necessary then I'll install a transmission mounted torque arm, I'm slowly going to increase the load on it by next week I should get it on a dyno, the week after I'll take it to the strip and I might take it to a standing mile event in Qatar to see how everything feels at high speed, I will let you all know by tomorow or after tomorow what it feels like on the road.

A centre console piece I fabricated to accommodate for the remote shifter being a little bit aft of the original f body shifter position but as you can see it's not that much this was made using a F-Body auto piece and a F body manual piece, the new position is actually very comfortable.

Ok got everything together and took it for a drive feels good and everything feels fine I didn't go hard on it because I got a new clutch but I will slowly start going harder on it and see how everything holds.
