YOu should have upgraded to the 01+ slave and master. Your going to be kicking yourself for it. Baby the clutch for 400-500 miles preferably city driving.

In my mind upgrading the slave to a 01+ is a must on SPECS. A good way to tell if your alright is to make sure the clutch starts to grab 1/2 way up on the peddle and that the shifter goes into gear real easy.(1st and reverse)I've seen a few cars eat syncro's because the clutch is not fully disengaging on shift's due to the older hydrolics.

For breaking the heat cycles are more important than mileage.I'd say 8-10 heat cycle's is about right then slip it hard to smooth the face to help get rid of chatter.

I think 10-20 miles is good for a minimum heat cycle.Really matters how much you take off from a stop to heat the clutch.Hitting the highway and racking 500 miles is not a break in

if you break it in right you'll be alot happier and chatter free mines all gone now but i did update the hydrolics and drill mod done . the hard slips helped the most i think. no she feels stock except that it holds like a mother hasnt slipped yet

Slowhawk, I did the slave upgrade but my shifter feels a little mushy going into 1st and 3rd. It doesn't "drop right in" like it did with the stock clutch. Should I be looking out for something else here? We also used the shim that Spec 3 provided us.

I have only put 80 miles on my Spec 3 so far. This concerns me now.

Make sure you order the spec 3i. It has to have the i after the 3.The i is for iron serrated disc. This clutch kicks ***.No chatter what so ever. One day of stop and go driving is all the heat cycle you need for the breakin.I called spec to see how to break it in because my car is pretty much a track only car,not on the road and have to borrow a dealer plate to take it out. They said take your first 2 passes easy then let her rippp.I drove the car for the day in stop and go traffic to get the heat cycle done right. You can't go wrong with the spec 3i.Most shops want to sell you the spec 3 because thats whats sittin on there shelf. The spec 3i is the only way to go

The 3i sounds good, but IF you can't afford the upgrade, my plain jane "3" is doing great.

Chatter is already disappearing after just 60 miles.

Well I put mine in a week or so ago, drove it about 80 miles that day and then 80 the next on a long trip. Then drove it for a couple days to work and back, about 20 miles each way, some stop and go. So almost 300 miles and the chatter is almost gone. Going to put another 100 on it then slip it a couple times. Probably going to wait a few more hundred before i hit the spray. But this thing grips like crazy! Haven't hit it hard yet but am absolutely dieing just waiting for it. Don't know if I'll be able to hold out on hitting the spray. I got the regular stg3 x-pad I believe but not sure how to tell the difference between the two. I also put in the new slave, but haven't gotten the new master or done the drill mod. Not sure if I really need the new master, but will probably do the drill mod before too long.

i put three cycles of 30-40 miles on my spec 4 before getting on it. my final break in consisted of 10 6000rmp dumps. this think holds like a ****.

I just got a Spec III installed (thanks Slowhawk) and I think it is great! I've got about 300mi on it now and it is smooth as silk, no chatter at all. Pedal feels great - can't wait to get her to the track now!
