Default T56 Magnum disassembly advice

I'm looking for someone with experience disassembling a T56 Magnum. I'm using a T56 manual and have a few questions on the differences between the two transmissions.

Follow the T56 manual.

Expect blocker ring assemblies, synchro struts, and shift detent systems to differ, and retaining lock-rings to be replaced with half-moon / ring assemblies.

6th gets pulled after the case comes off.

The reason I'm going into it is because 4th gear syncro blocker ring went out and I'm going to replace 1-4 blocker rings with cf rings.

One question I have at this point, since the countershaft is one piece, doesn't everything have to come off of it before the case can be lifted off?

When I removed the extension housing I found this stuck to the magnets.

Apparently it's a shift lug but it must have come from inside the main housing. What's strange is the trans was shifting fine except it wanted to grind if shifting too fast into 4th.

Is yours a magnum? Did you replace it with OEM or a billet piece?

On p. 2-2, 2-3 & 2-4, can you identify the piece that is broken?

I removed 5th gear off the main shaft using my modified Harbor Freight gear puller.

Then removed 5th drive gear off the counter shaft and 5th side of the 5/6 synchronizer.

Now, does anyone know how to remove the 5/6 syncro hub (seen in picture)?

Got it all apart now. Headed to Harbor Freight for a hydraulic press to get the syncros off.

Got it put back together to the speedometer rotor and gear then noticed one last snap ring left in the tray.

It's the one on the right. It is .090" thick, 1.67"OD and 1.35"ID whereas the rest of the snap rings are .125" thick, 1.55"OD and 1.30"ID. I remember when I disassembled it, noticing the thin ring early on and wondering how many different sizes there were going to be.

Please let me know if you know where this snap ring goes.

I can't look right now, but try next to the rear support beearing (white cage, fat rollers; rear-most roller in the trans.)

All of the snap ring grooves above reverse gear on the main shaft are wide and the wide (.125") snap rings fit perfectly including next to the rear support bearing. Notice the thin snap ring at the base of the o/p splines.

Since I'm working on the magnum and following the regular T56 manual, the rear of the countershaft and main shaft are different and that includes snap ring placement. The T56 doesn't have a speedo rotor and gear and the magnum has a one piece countershaft.

This is a picture of a T56 rebuild. You can see the snap ring above the speedo rotor is thin compared to the others in the picture and there isn't a groove below the rotor on the magnum main shaft.

When I disassembled the transmission I remember the thin snap ring coming off early so I guess I have to start taking things apart again. I was hoping someone knew where the thin ring belongs.

Ok, I took the main shaft down to 5th gear and the countershaft down to 5/6 synchro and found a groove without a snap ring...

The T56 manual doesn't show a snap ring there.
