Default Clutch choice: Best bang for buck

Hey guys, im replacing my stock clutch in my full bolt on SS while my new t56 is going in and Im wondering what the best option for a clutch would be. Im looking at the Spec stage 2 and 2+ along with the ls7, ram clutches, and McLeod street pro/ super street pro, but it seems no matter what clutch you research people have good and bad things to say regardless of price! Im looking for a clutch in the $500 price range as im on a budget and want options are the best and most reliable bang for my buck. Let me know what you guys think. Also I plan on adding a cam so it will need to support cam only power.

Thanks

I never had any luck with spec, I had a 3 and a 3+. Both never worked well for me. I always liked the ls7 when I had H/C.

I have a New Spec Stage 2 in my car now, when I purchased it I also was on a budget. Don't waste your money, Save and Go Monster.

I've got the Monster stage 3 with Tick master cylinder, and I've been nothing but pleased with it. I would save a little more and buy a Monster setup. They run specials quite often.

I have had a Spec in my car before and I will never put another one in my car, it was a complete disaster. My car ended up being down for a few weeks having to pull it and send it back to them twice. They then sent me back a different clutch than I bought, different stage and everything, and it lasted a year or so and completely went out.

I have used a Mcleod RST and it was great until I surpassed its horsepower limits.

I am now using a Monster that is wonderful and the customer service is the best I have seen. I would save and go Monster. Steve is great to deal with!

For what you want, the best bang for the buck from Monster would be the Level 2 single disc.

Feel free to give us a call if you want to go over details.(817-750-2000)

I wouldn't do the ls7 without doing some searching in this section to know its issues , I have one and look forward to the day when the budget allows something lighter without the self adjusting pressure plate.

I considered ACT and a friend has one in his autocross car. I ended up with a Monster LT1-s twin with lightened flywheel. The stock LS7 is cheap but its just so heavy you're throwing HP out the window. The Monster works great for me, great pedal feel, worked with stock master cylinder.

I ran the McLeod Super Street Pro (P/N 75223) for my 450/400 HCI Fbody. Stock pedal feel, and took abuse like a champion. 5500rpm clutch dumps on drag radials, hot lapping. On a McLeod Street Twin now. Similar pedal feel, and the same quality, but I needed it for the extra power.

I like my monster level 2. Diamond also has some good reviews although I don't believe they include a flywheel by default. McLeod makes good stuff as well. The LS7 isn't worth it IMO, there are better options. Swap your MC while you're in there and you're set.

LS7 and lightweight flywheel..... or single disc Monster.

Once you start going twin disc I do love McLeod products.

Our Dual-Friction clutch is right in your price range. All of our customers who run the DF love it because it holds a crazy amount of power for a single disk, and still has stock pedal feel!

Cool Fresh clutch and Trans rebuild, wondering about the price tag

HHey guys so I just had Lonnie Patrick of LP Care Automotive in Gardena, Ca work on my 99 M6 LS1 Trans Am. Car runs amazing after he rebuilt Trans and clutch that all went out due to a harmonics issue from an input shaft that had more play than my shaft ever gets lol, okay down to business my question is not how but why. So I'll list the invoice :

Timken clutch bearing set $849.68! ???
Tremec syncro set $373.31
Seal Set $89.99
Pilot bearing $14.99
Slave/release bearing assembly $206.98
Grip Power Stage 1 clutch and Pressure plate $935.50
Resurface flywheel $100
Dex III Trans fluid $49.95

Parts total $2620.40
Labor $950.00

Grand total $3829.56

Am I getting "F"d in the A or is my wallet just taking this personal??
I appreciate any input!! Thanks guys!
