Default T56 will sometimes grind in between shifts But NOT all the time

When the vehicle is first started and driving shifting though the gears it will sometimes grind. After the vehicle has been driven and warmed up or warm there no grind what so ever. The transmission has 141k on it with a new clutch, master and slave

looking for some info

Thanks

Mine used to do it too on my Fbody, on my C5 I don't have it but instead it's super notchy. That's just how they are, once they get warmed up they're fine, I never let it bother me really.

No. The T56 should not grind when cold. None of the gears should grind regardless if they are hot or cold. At most they may be a little notchy when cold depending on fluid viscosity and that specific fluids effect on the coefficient of friction between the synchronizer and hub. That said, I've driven some that were perfect after 75,000 miles and others that were notchy from the factory. 141K is a good bit of mileage. You may be starting to wearing thru the friction surfaces on the syncros. If the fluid is in question then I'd suggest swapping it.

Right. Have you tried switching to a high-quality trans fluid, or slightly different cold viscosity, pewterz?

No I am going to start with checking the fluid level and change the fluid in it. What fluid do you guys suggest is best?

I've used a bunch of different types thru the years and I have settled on Redline D4 ATF. Some suggest GM syncromesh to help engagement however it did not do well in my trans. Valvoline max life DEX III is a decent/cheap option. Let us know what you find and how the fluid swap impacts performance.

D4 ATF is perfect. We're interested to see what changes.

Mine was doing the same thing, but grinded intermittently hot or cold. Changed to Synchromesh and havent had an issue yet. it is notchy but I live with it. I bet the synchros are failing. 140k on mine as well.
