Default LS 1 Is the Flywheel and External Balance?

1999 C5 - is the flywheel a external balance flywheel. I purchased a LUK Heavy Duty Clutch Assembly that does not appear to be and external weighted flywheel. Any thoughts?

All LS engines are internally balanced.

C5s have a weight on the flywheel fbodys do not have, I remember seeing it on my dad's car. I don't know if it's there to balance the engine or clutch setup.

I don't know what you saw, but this is fake tech.

Look in a GM service manual and you'll see it. Even the C5 forums talk about it: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...he-engine.html

Read that post yourself. It supports exactly what I said. The engines are internally balanced. The balancer is balanced by itself, so is the flywheel. In other words, everything that bolts to the crank is balanced by itself, not as a balancer/crank/flywheel assembly.

And like I said there is a weight on C5 flywheels. It isn't, "fake tech" by any means. The OP was probably confused because he's removing the stock setup and saw the weight while the Luk doesn't have it.

Dude...there is no weight on the flywheel. The flywheel is drilled in certain places to make it neutral balanced (balanced by itself). This is done so any flywheel can be put on any engine and the whole assembly will end up being balanced as a unit.

I'm done. You and the OP can proceed as you see fit.

Why are there countless threads on C5 forums and the included GM Tech article talking about these weights that don't exist? 30 second Google search:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-flywheel.html

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...l-balance.html

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...checklist.html

I also just looked in my 02 F-body GM Service Manual and on page 6-755 it does say to add flywheel weights if applicable. So I was wrong in my initial post, both C5 and F-bodies could have weights added if needed.
