Default Loud Ping Clutch pedal return spring? Wuhhhhh

My clutch/transmission been feeling a bit notchy this last week, tried changing the fluid ranger method havent gone for the full bleed yet mostly because I have a Tick MC and Monster Stage 3 I'm about to install in a month. Any how I'm crusing in 6th gear and right when I'm down shifitng to 5th hear a really load ping/ding like somebody hit a golf ball inside my car. Transmission and everything feels the same no grinding still tiny bit notchy. Havent been down to check yet but doing some digging through old threads and people talking about the clutch pedal return spring breaking.... could that have been the noise??? It did sound similar to a spring breaking under tension it was just really loud..... guess I'll drain tranny fluid tomorrow and check for metal??? Any body break this spring have a similar experience???

That's definitely the noise. I can't believe yours has lasted this long! (None of mine lasted over 45K miles of city driving.) You must have low mileage.

Good news - The Tick MC doesn't need the spring to correct a limp pedal and the instructions actually instruct to take the spring out and toss it. So, if you look up there, you'll probably see half of a spring. Just pull it out and toss it. (The spring has three attachment points. A center point and two arms. The ping you heard is likely one of those side arms breaking off ballistically.)

Thanks for sharing!! I haven't taken that lower panel off to have a look to see if the spring broke yet. Car still drives the same as it did.... I'm thinking I might need to throw the new clutch and tick adjustable master cylinder in this weekend. I really don't want to damage my transmission with these notchy shifts.... I had tranny rebuilt about a year ago.

I'm curious. How many miles did your clutch pedal spring have on it?

BTW - It reminds me of the sound at 50 seconds:

My car has right about 40k on the clock right now..... I looked up under there last night and I couldn't see a spring..... I didn't remove the lower dash panel though. I think i'm going to throw my Tick M/C in on Friday re-bleed system and see if my notchy shifting goes away. If it doesn't I'll just go ahead and install the Monster Stage 3 set-up I got the following weekend. Hopefully that solves the Notchy shifting. I'm pretty sure its got to be my stock master going bad though because it happens in every gear and it also becomes notchy(er) while the car is moving with an increase in heat. I may change the tranny fluid too, got about 15k on the tranny fluid since last change.

Wow @ 50 sec in that video is exactly what it sounded like lol!!! I guess it probably was that spring going bye bye! I'll have to pull that panel off and look around. I didn't see anything attached to the pedal so something ain't right.

I think I had two or three springs in before I moved to the Tick M/C. Usually the arm that breaks off is sitting on the lower IP panel foam or tucked away in some odd corner underneath the dash. The attaching point for the actual spring is really high up - behind the gauges.
