replacing clutch...Is there anyone that recommends the Spec Stage III
I have an 01 Z28. Cat back exhaust, cold air mod, endless suspension work. It's paid for now so it's time for engine work. So I want a clutch that will handle plenty of power. My throwout bearing is going out on me, I'm just going to go ahead and replace the clutch. For the price and the power it's rated for, the Spec Stage III looks like my best bet. The website says it's rated up to 700lbs of torque. I liked the look of the kit and the fact that it does come with the bearing is a plus. I'm not sure if the ceramic or carbon would be better. I do a lot of highway and some stop-and-go driving so I'm thinking the carbon would be a better idea. Is there anyone who can vouch for this clutch and if it can really handle the power it says? If not this one then how about the Stage IV?

Thanks man. you know, the spec site didn't really mention the 3i, but I might not have been playing that close attention. Too much beer I suppose. But I'll definitely look into the 3i. You wouldn't happen to know the differences do you? I guess I'll just have to look it up. Thanks for the imput though.

I'm giving the RAM Powergrip Stage III a shot this week...should have it installed by Thursday. It won't hold as much as the Spec, but it should fit my bolt-on car very well, and allow me to step up to heads/cam without needing to replace the clutch. I'm hoping it turns out well...

I have the SPEC 2 in mine right now and already am wanting the 3. I should have gone with my gut feeling and forgone the advice. Although I have nothing special presently I have LSX intake, and a H/C, as well as tune planned rather soon. The 2 will hold a little over 500 tq, so no problems there. They have the aluminum backed pressure plate as an option now so that will be the route I am heading along with the billet flywheel. All in all I love the SPEC though, first 500 miles were hard not to get on it and the grip was intense. Enjoy the buy!!!

The Stage 3 X-Pad is a good all around clutch. It is carbon based with ceramic pucks on each of the 6 wings (Front and back). Very streetable, bites when you need it to.
The Stage 3i (Iron Disc) is geared towards more track abuse. It is still streetable, chatters a bit when it is cold though.
The x-pad is rated for 700fwtq and the iron is rated for 850fwtq.
The stage 4 is the same power handling as the 3 except it has no spring dampeners so it is not as streetable (More like an on/off switch).
Let me know if you are interested we have them in stock ready to ship same day of order
Stage 3 X-Pad Kit $400
Stage 3i Kit $520
Steel Billet Flywheel $225
All the above prices include free shipping anywhere in the 48 states.

Thanks for everyone's input. Matt, I'll give you guys a call in regards to the clutch when I get back from my fishing trip. I think I'm going to go with the 3x kit. I'm still going to be driving my car a bit until I really dive into the engine. Which may be a while because most of my money will be going to my fishing trip and then Jamaica. But after I dive into the motor I'll be calling you back to upgrade to the iron disk. Again, thanks for everyone's input. Everyone drive safe, but like a bat outa hell!!!!!!

I love it when I am needing a performance clutch. Just daily driving it gets some time to get used to, it is sticky. I will do another if I ever get to needing another. It grips enough to have sheared the teeth on my rearend hitting second at wot.
