Default Pilot bearing 2005 gto engine from 2006 trailblazer ss

So I just ordered my new ls7 clutch kit which included a new pilot bearing . This kit will be going on an engine i pulled from a 2006 trailblazer ss and is going in my 2005 gto (t56 m12 trans) trying to install dorman Part # 690-057 bearing . However when trying to install the new pilot bearing I was unsuccessful with the ‘ol hammer and socket method and damaged the front of the bearing beyond my comfort ! So now I have a question in my mind of if I wasn’t able to install it because it’s the wrong size possibly ? I froze the bearing 24 hours and also made sure to tap it in square before any hard blows with a hammer . Any help is super appreciated ! Don’t want to buy another bearing that’s the exact same just to damage it once more .

Can you mic a section of it that wasn’t damaged to get a size idea? Maybe wrong part in box?

I order specifically for a 06 gto which is the ls2 bearing , then I actually just tried with a ls1 bearing after reading some forums and people saying that’s what I needed , still didn’t work . Is the back of the crank different or something in trailblazers since they never had an option for manual ? Starting to get frustrated with it and I’ve already spent over $40 in bearings .

Looks like your pilot bushings are measuring between 27.8 and 27.9 mm, butt the way you're measuring it (not that you have much choice) will result in a too-large error. 27.8 is REAL close to 1-3/32" butt maybe .002" larger so that makes sense.

Not seeing anything wrong there.

Post up a pic of the crank, and one of the back side (where it hit the crank) of a bearing that you reefed on but it didn't go in, and maybe we can guess what's up.

I used to buy those bushings in boxes of 25 for about $8 - 9 a box... I think I still have a box laying around with a handful left in it. MY how times have changed. and not for the better.

so after further inspection , looking in the back of my crank it seems the last owner gashed it trying to remove the old one or something . There was a little shard of metal sticking from the inside of the crank and off centering it when it went in . Took a little piece of 80 grit sandpaper and some wd 40 and went around it for about a minute and a half or so and it smoothed it out a good bit but still could feel it sticking up , went to a ice shop near me that had some dry ice pellets and put it to the outside of bearing for a bit and switched to a bigger hammer and BOOM it went in with a big sigh of relief . Its completely flush however I did scar the outer face of the bearing just a bit from trying to tap it in ( will this cause a problem ?) I’ll attach a pic also , it’s only the outer face where the socket went . Upset it took me a whole day and $45 to figure this out but happy I got it done finally and can install the rest of this kit !

I TR6060 swapped my 08 TBSS and used the larger pilot bearing. I think it came in my Monster Clutch kit but it's been a few years ago and I can't remember for sure.

interesting , as stated I’m going with ls7 clutch kit which from my research says to use the ls1 flywheel and pilot bearing and I got it pressed it finally also ^ so I think I’m gonna give this one a shot . Now my question is if damaged it going in . Picture of damage is above also also , didn’t think the socket would dent it up that bad and I still think it’s fine honestly but want y’all’s opinion .

if the needle bearings turn freely with your finger, its fine.

Next time use a wood dowel and hit that with hammer. I use a piece of closed coat hanger dowel.

anytime you need to remove it, use the blind hole puller. Autozone has it in their load-a-tool program. Easy to use
