Default Speed Inc and Trans Work????

Hey guys i just wanted to ask some stuff, first before anything i want to say i am in no way bad mouthing Speed or anything, i was just curious. But anyways here we go. I dropped off my 99 SS to SPeed on Sunday to get the street rebuild T-56. So i heard from Speed the other day saying that the trans was in pretty bad shape, every gear except 6th was wiped out.

I knew it was in bad shape and everything. So I am having them do their rebuild on it, plus the updated gm hydraulics, as well as a Fidanza Flywheel, Pro 5.0 shifter and a Spec Stage 3 clutch. The total to do all that plus install and everything was $3700, so then i found out the input shaft was busted now also, and that a new one is $400 so now the total is $4100 for a trans rebuild, shifter, clutch, hydraulics.

So i talked to some buddies that know alot more then me and they all were like thats kinda alot, i didnt think it was,and i kinda got to thinking, so i was just posting this here to see what all of u guys had to say. I have never done work with Speed, and i have heard good things with them so i expected to pay a little more for the quality and everything of there work, so i am hoping everything goes OK. Thanks guys and please reply with posts.
Thanks
JacobK

Speed will treat you very good. I just know that the trans isnt all that hard to rebuild, I'm taking my own out and rebuilding it myself. i wouldnt put over $500 in mine, i much rather be running an auto right now but im stuck with the 6-speed.

To rebuild a T56 it isn't hugely expensive till you start replacing parts. So Removing and replacing the transmission, rebuilding the trans, installing clutch then your parts on top of that (hydraluics, flywheel, spec s3, shifter) $4100 is about right. Tom is honest as is the rest of the guys at speed inc. and the labor times they quote a very fair, they replace a clutch for $250 labor; at the dealer we do them for 6 hours@$110 an hour.

If you clashed the gears awhile before you sent it for a rebuild, they had to replace much of the rotating parts. I don't think it sounds bad for an extensive build.I assume they got it right so whats the beef? I would rather pay for what is needed and have it done right than get the budget-bandaid job that requires going back in way too soon. Don't let your buds rag you about what they don't know.

$4100 is a lot for a trans rebuild...you can get a fully built stage 4 trans from flp for $2000...i would never pay that much, that is rediculous!

The way I read it was he is getting a rebuilt tranny plus the cost of a new input shaft, gm hydraulics, Fidanza Flywheel, Pro 5.0 shifter and a Spec Stage 3 clutch for $4100 including labor. Parts alone (including the $1950 tranny) are $3600, so that leaves $500 for Labor and (tax?). Sounds pretty damn reasonable to me..Sure you can rebuild it yourself for cheaper, but that's about the going price for a race shop to do it IMO.
