i would be very worried about your stock rear end. a 10 bolt with gears and drag radials is a ticking time bomb

IF you are going to see the track regularly then I would focus on strengthening the platform first. As mentioned above, the rear won't last long, especially if you start modding. I can't even believe the 4.56's lasted that long in that car. I would assume it wasn't raced a whole lot and done more for looks with 325's out back.

Upgrade:
Rear end, driveshaft, clutch and hydraulics need to be updated. You will also want to get the (3,4 gear) steel fork for your T-56 if you are going to be doing any type of powershifting.

My Dad and I put the rear end together. I know an aftermarket shifter would be good. It already has the Hurst shifter that was an option. But next winter A BBC will be going in so a different trans will be also, so i don't wanna spend the money on a shifter for just going to the track a few times.

Powershifting a '98-00 T56 is a bad idea. Killed my 3rd gear doing so, in 11k miles. Speed shifting is your best bet for any kind of longevity.

I too have seen a good gain...I gained a solid mph powershifting. I powershifted my '97 LT1 for 80k miles, ~ 400 track passes, and it shifted like butter when I sold it. The '98-00 T-56s seem to be much weaker than LT1 T-56s.

Just to make sure we're talking about the same definition of "power shifting," are you referring to shifting with a clutch but keeping the gas pedal mashed?

It's just the "regular" shifting technique done as fast as possible...
