i've just changed my trans fluid, and used about 3.5 quarts. do i not have the tranny quite level, and got about .3 qts too little in there? should i worry about this?

First I hate the T56. I call it the 'rock box' because it shifts poorly.

The Royal Purple Synchromax is a definate improvement but it will never be a ZF in shifting quality or strength. It is a bean counter solution for more profit.

I do know that with ATF lubed trannies you have to watch the additives and the type of lube you use. I also am 'told' that there are several iterations of synchros for this unit and some are very lube conscious - - the T56 is my chief complaint with the C6 next to the rear suspension.

Mine always takes less than 4 quarts. More like 3 and 3/4ths, but your prolly fine.

royal purple, on horsepower tv they changed the engine oil, trans fluid, and gear oil to royal purple in a 2000 ss and gained 8.2 rwhp, i thought that was good for simply changing the fluids.

billscamaros- I'm not a T-56 engineer or anything, but, I'd think that 3.5 vs 3.8 quarts would be fine...who knows, you might have left .3 quarts in there and may be right on the level still and not short...still, even if you are .3 quarts short, I can't believe that'd spell long term disaster for your tranny.

Just my .02...

i put in amsoil when i first got my car. it had a little synchro problem going to 5th when i bought it, still does. so far i have about 6kmiles on the fluid. havent noticed any changes. all i have to do it wait a few seconds before putting it into 5th or just give it a little double clutch and its all good. amsoil is good stuff. but i kind of feel like i just read 11 pages of posts and have gained no useful information. everyone has opinions, results, technition recomendations, all of which are different. i just feel like i wasted alot of my time reading all of this. perhaps the moral of the story is run something that feels good to you? who really knows what its going to do. im just lost here...

I continuously use Dexron III, simply because my spacers are made of a paper material and they will sag with any type of Synthetic transmission fluid

If you put friction modifier in anything, it would be your rear end, and it wouldn't be to help make your shifts smoother. It would be to prevent the posi from chattering...

Are you saying put friction modifier in the T-56?

yep, to make the t56 shift smoother. Matt at spec told me to try it as people have been doing it in mustangs for years and it works. I have not done it yet but it should work if you think about it. I know its for rearends but it keeps them from chattering by being slicker.

The tranny says on the side, "Use only Dexron III ATF" so that's what I used (Castrol or Penzoil I think). I actually had bought the synchomesh from NAPA and took it back - $10/qt vs. $3-4/qt.

Probably the Syntorq stuff since the Viper T-56 is tucked so far away from the cooling airflow.

Someone said if you go back to d3 get all the synthetic out why is that? I thought about trying something like syncromesh or going back to reg dex3 but i dunno think im going to flush the clutch fluid tomorrow first. You know the more you read this thread the more confused you get lol. I did put some pennzoil syncromesh in a 02 civic tonight ill see how he likes that.
