Just put Pennzoil Syncromesh in last weekend and so far not much different. It might be just alittle more smooth compared to the oem ATF.

I use Royal purple syncromax. I would have a hell of a time putting it into first on occasion just wouldnt go in. So i changed the fluid out to this and it goes into gear alot easier. This could have been low fluid so on.. but my tranny has always been a bit noisy 89k on it but never grinded so I believe the fluid is doing its job! I recomend the RP syncromax from my personal experience just because it is working fine for me right now shifts are a bit notchy but i realy dont want to blame the fluid for that, just an older tranny.

I just bought the OEM Dexron III ATF from GM. It has the same SAE thickness properties as Mobil 1. It also shifted GREAT! even with 75K miles on it before I put in Valvoline which made things a bit notchier. I am going back OEM and think it will be fine. I have heard from numerous sources that RP will eat blocker rings, not b/c it is synthetic, but b/c the add-pack isnt very good for them.

Was there any proof to the fluid being the culprit? And what year car/blocker ring material? I just can't see how a company such as RP would have a fluid specifically designed for modern manual transmissions and yet it eats blocker rings. I'd just like to see your "sources". If you have a link or something please post it up.

Well...Joe and Amber at Six Speeds Inc. don't recommend it anymore. That's enough for me to steer away from it (especially since they built my trans).

That's interesting, I would find them to be a credible source from what I've read about them on this site. What exactly was their reasoning?

Any year. No T56 in ANY F-body had anything but paper syncros. I have no idea where the CF after 01' rumor came from.

I am using what the sticker says on the case. Heck, who knows better than the people that make it.

I use Mobil 1, but to be honest, I liked the stock GM fluid better.

T-56 just did a viper conversion for me and replaced everything in the tranny except 1st gear...They personally recommended for my tranny 2 qts of syntergyn and 2 qts of mobil 1 atf.....just my 2 cents

I've only ever seen them reccommend Mobil 1 ATF.

Thats what I use, along with a bottle of Lucas Trans Fix (to thicken up the fluid, it needs a rebuilt) and its been good.

Hey guys, I went and got tons of fluids for my car yesterday (engine, tranny, and rear end) and accidentally got Mercon V instead of Dexron III. Will this work for an 02 T56?

Mercon V and Dexron III should be the same stuff. Look on the back of the bottle, see if it says it meets GM Dexron III requirements. If it does, then you're good to go. I'm pretty sure Mobil 1 only makes one ATF, anyway, so that should be the stuff.
