Default changing clutch master cylinder

I have a 98' M6 that seems hard to put into any gear when I first start the car. I pump the clutch a bunch and it goes into gear easier, but still rough. I am pretty sure it is my master cylinder that is messed up. When driving sometimes it will shift okay, sometimes it grinds...pretty weird. I do not want to hurt the tranny at all and want to get this resolved soon. I have seen on here how 98's have the older master cylinders and 01-02's have updated ones. I am planning on putting a new master cylinder in my car, but was wondering if I also need a new slave to work with it or will the master be enough? Also maybe where I can get one. If anyone else thinks maybe something else is wrong with it, please post up. Thanks

Original clutch & slave? Hows the fluid look? Prolly would be a good idea to R&R the master & flush all the old fluid out of there.

Yes, it has the original master/slave. What does R&R mean? Also how should I go about flushing out all the old fluid, because it looks black in the resiorvior. When I bleed it black crap comes out so I am thinking it has a old chewed up diaphram.

R&R = remove & replace
You can flush the fluid out by bleeding the system until clean fluid is coming out of the system. I'd suggest doing a search on bleeding here first before you do this though. Might be a good idea to get a mighty vac to bleed it with.

So just to be clear, I would be fine just upgrading my master and leaving the slave alone right? Thanks

Maybe, but it doesn't hurt to just do the master and see if it improves. It's not like it's any easier to do them both together.

Ya I'd do the master & bleed it out & see if that takes care of it.

Well, I changed my master and the problem is still there but a little better...I guess I will change the slave to an updated one next weekend. Does anyone know where to find the specs on how tight to tighten all the tranny bolts, driveshaft bolts, torque arm bolts to? I looked around and it dosen't seem too hard to swap the slave, but just want to find the specs on the bolts for when it all goes back together. Thanks for the help so far

if your doing a slave on that thing, you might want to think about a clutch also.

Well it has a centerforce stage 2 about 15k miles old, so I think it is still good. I just hope my syncros are okay after driving the car like this for a while....
