Default M6:Grinding noise when i accelerate?? Help!

hello all,
i have a 00 ws6 with 76000 miles on it, with my mods listed below. the car has been geat, and has the original clutch i believe.

i raced a new benz convertible (sl500 maybe?) , and really got on it from a stop to the top of third, and edged him out...

however, when i proceeded to drive off after a stopping at a stop sign, the car started grinding when i accelerated. i mean, i can go through all of my gears by slowly accelerating softly, but when i accelerate harder, it grinds bad. i think its from the rear. i do not drag my car at the track, and i only get frisky at the street lights for fun maybe once a month. i had no other symptoms with my car before this time. after a search, i found the following response to a similar thread, and someone said this:

"Let me guess you probably have a 98-00 car with the factory clutch. If you do then you broke the hub inside the clutch disk.the tranny is fine its the clutch. What is happening is the hub broke off of its disk and is spinning and rubbing against the springs on the disk, they are real stiff like valve springs, thats whats causing the loud grinding nasty *** sound.Gm made the hub on the 98-00 cars that dont have the ls6 clutch way to thin.and it broke.so on the 01-02 cars they made the hub 20% thicker.simple fix pull clutch and replace disk or just do ls6 clutch"

does this sound right? i took it to a local dealer just for a diagnosis, and they said my cats were shot, and they may have to drop the tranny to see if there is a problem. h#ll no! to much $ has anyone else had this problem? what does it sound like to u?

many thanks!

Sounds logical. A broken trans gear would not drive sometimes/ grind others It would grind all the time or produce no drive at all.

i had started that thread that your refering to. i pulled the trans today and checked out the clutch and its in perfect shape! replacing it anyway while the trans is out. so im taking the trans over to my buddys shop tomarrow and hes going to tear the thing apart. he thinks that i may have broke a shift fork. i dont know. but from your discription we are definatly having the same problem. so i'll keep you posted.
