Default Gear engagement on a cold T56

I'm getting strange symptoms from my T56 when I start my car cold. Upon initial startup, it is almost impossible to get the gearshift into any gear <img src="images/icons/confused.gif" border="0"> As soon as I can get it to go into any gear (usually 4th is the easiest), all the sudden it can go into any gear easily.

Depressing/releasing the clutch does not help, and I also had this problem before I got a Pro 5.0 Anyone know what's up? I'm thinking about changing my manual tranny fluid to Redline to see if it is a fluid issue.

What kinda clutch/hydraulics do you have? I seem to have a "similar" problem as you (read my other post). I have a Cartek clutch/hydraulics.

I'm having the same exact problems. I still have the stock clutch, and about 200 track passes on it from this past season.
Clutch is finially starting to slip. I already have a SPEC in my garage that I need to install.

I have a ritiual that I go through. Before I go into Reverse, I always shift into 3rd (the easiest engagement for me) and then into Reverse. Also siift into 3rd or 4th before going into 1st at stoplights and stop and go traffic. I though this was normal for cold weather, but I think it also might be related to my deminishing clutch.

I do the same thing. Have had the same issues since new (stock clutch no racing).

Yeah - what you guys are describing sounds like my shifting ritual on startup. Can't quite figure it out - there's no grinding, no vibration, no anything. It's just like the gates aren't there.

I have a stock clutch, which will be getting replaced in two weeks with a McLeod twin along with the engine swap. I'm curious to see what this will do.

Guys, I don't think it has anything to do with the clutch's at all. The fact that the tranny fluid is cold inhibits the synchros from working as well as they can.

That's why I was originally wondering if switching to Redline or some other tranny fluid would help. By default, I am going to get a new clutch, and I will also change the tranny fluid. It will suck if the problem is still there afterwards.

All of my T56 trannys have done this. They are just quirky when they are cold. I actually have to drive a few miles and let it warm up so that it shifts smoothly. Redline won't change anything, I have used both types of fluid.

Just be nice to the T56 until it is warm, or you will be needing a rebuild earlier.

My car is balky to shift when it's cold too.

I'm glad to learn this is normal for a cold T56, this is the first year I've had to drive my T/A when it was cold outside, I thought the tranny was messed up or something.

I can't wait to get my beater car back and garage the T/A for the rest of the winter.
