Default HELP!! New clutch came. Its scratched, dirty and banged up. Is this ok? PIX

Hey guys,
Can I get an opinion on some stuff?

Notice the scratches and missing paint.......Is this ok?

What the heck is this and is it ok that its grooves are pretty damaged?

Thanx for the feedback. This is my daily driver and I have to make sure the install goes smoothly. I have never held a clutch (damn thier heavy) I accept bein called a NOOB if it puts my mind at ease and I hear that this is acceptable.

Looks like a dog or something chewed on it. Seems kinda fishy to me.

Default Don't worry Hugger

I work for a clutch company, and while we would not pack a clutch kit so poorly it gets beat up in transit, I think you'll be okay. The scratches in the paint will never be seen and it will spend its life in a dark and not so pleasant place; inside the bellhousing. The fingers of the daiphragm have never made contact with a bearing so it looks to be brand new. The alignment tool just holds the disc in place while you bolt up the cover/pressure plate so the crappy condition should not be a problem. Slide it into the hub of your disc a few times to make sure the gouges dont affect it doing its job, it's very temporary job. You didn't show any shots of the other side of the clutch cover. This is the most critical area, where the plate meets the flywheel. It needs to be good, ie. no gouges. Grooves like an old record are the signs of a new pressure plate. If it has a swirl pattern on the surface, it is a rebuilt/reground pressure plate. Check it out. Then write the company you got it from and tell them to start packing their clutches properly. Good luck, Noobster. If you need any tech assistance, call us at 800-528-6743. Steve or Randy will help you with any problem you might be having. Gopher it.

Looks like a Textralia, mine had a little bit of scratching on the PP too. Actually when I talked to Jeff about something else, he apologized for the scratches and said the balancing machine does that, and they are working on getting it fixed. As long as it doesn't effect operation, I don't mind.

The alignment tool OTOH looks about FUBAR. Maybe it got crushed a few times in transit by the heavy clutch and PP assembly. Perhaps you can get Textralia to fed ex you another alignment tool, they're pretty cheap and so far in my dealing with them Textralia seems very willing to help you out.

dont see finger prints.
but its dirty.
Had to wash my hands after touching it.

It came in the most plain brown box u ever saw.

Autozone (and probably others) will carry that alignment tool, and I think it's about $1.99. Might save you time waiting for the mail.

Put some fresh yellow paint on it. If non of the contact parts look damaged, I'd say that it will be fine. I would call the seller or manufacturer and voice some concern about their packaging.

That was my sarcastic way of saying, it looks like the thing has already been installed before.

If I opened that box it would be on it's way back same day.
