Clutch Break In -> Got on it a bit, did I mess up the clutch??

Break in involves seating the disc facings into the flywheel and pressure plate surfaces. When the disc is new, it will have some high/low spots until it makes full contact on the friction surfaces. If the clutch is worked hard prior to break in, it will not be able to apply its full clamping load.

Awesome thanks for summing that up for me. By hard is that pertaining to take offs? If you get on it in 2nd -to- third is that bad? I wasn't hard on the take off but I did get in it a little this weekend, I put maybe 100 miles on it before this weekend. Did I mess anything up by doing this or should I be ok. Thanks again..Michael

Michael,
Sorry no tech help here for you.
Just wanted to say that I saw your car up at Powerhouse Performance the Saturday before last. That is an awesome looking car! Just sweet lookin. How's living with that cage?
Hope your clutch is treating you well. Did Chris & John get it all sorted out?
Later,
Mike

I was told that the break-in period is 500 miles. Now my question is, what excatly is being broken in, and why does it take 500 miles for it to break in. I just don't understand what excatly is the reason behind this. Any help will be greatly appreciated. TIA, Michael

Mike, Thanks really do appreciate it. Chris and John were able to get everything worked out, which was a big releif. The clutch is so far so good. As for the cage its not that bad. Once you learn how to get in and out quickly its all good. Doesn't take long to get use to the cage. Can't wait for the break in period to be over so I can take her to the track, I am dying to get out.
Thanks again everyone for chime in. So do you think that I will be alright if I only got into a few times last weekend or did I screw it up???
Thanks, Michael

I would not dump the clutch or do any full out runs... but a little 2500-4000 rpm action is okay from a roll IMO.
